WKRG News 5, a dominant Nexstar CBS affiliate in Mobile/Pensacola, is seeking an Enterprise Digital News Weather Reporter. This dynamic reporter will enterprise, gather, research, write, report and produce a variety of news and weather content daily for all station platforms
This will require work in the newsroom as well as reporting in the field alongside station reporters and digital staff and/or independently, writing, aggregating, and publishing news stories and content to our various news platforms. Work hours could vary, depending on content needs.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that is well-versed in video journalism and web content creation and publishing using an ever-evolving set of multimedia tools and platforms. The candidate should have news, weather and editorial experience and a savvy working knowledge of broadcast and/or digital news, web, social media, and the overall digital media landscape.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work with news and weather team on stories and editorial direction
Enterprise unique, impactful and on-brand stories
Develop sources, beats
Write in-depth and sometimes investigative original news and weather content for various platforms
Take a lead on breaking news, weather and in-depth, investigative stories on relevant topics
Shoot and edit content that can be used for various platforms
Post & update news and weather content on various platforms
Update and maintain online presence, including mobile sites and apps
Other duties as assigned
Responsibilities & Skills
Strong news and weather writing and editing skills
Attention to journalistic integrity and best practices
Proficiency in web content management systems
Ability to create visually rich content such on various platforms
Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
Attention to detail and quality
Some proficiency and working knowledge of multimedia/video tools and applications and basic Internet technologies such as HTML, RSS, FTP is beneficial
Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience; entry level meteorologist skills
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Valid driver's license with a good driving record
Physical Demands & Work Environment
The Enterprise Digital News Weather Reporter must be able to sit, use newsroom software on a computer, conduct telephone conversations, use e-mail & social media for communication, write and copy edit scripts, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work in close proximity to others and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
