Job Summary

The Data Solutions Analyst will work within the IT Enterprise Data Management Team. This individual will work with clients to determine business requirements, priorities, define key performance indicators (KPI), and influence BI and data solutions. This includes working with business and development teams to ensure we design and deliver enterprise data solutions.

The data solutions analyst should understand how data is turned into information and how that knowledge supports and enables key business processes. Individual must have an in-depth understanding of the business environment and an interest in going beyond the obvious, delving into the source, the definition, philosophy, and foundational roots of a data element in order to create information. Ideal candidate will work well within an agile team environment.


Works with internal and external customers and IT Partners to develop and analyze business intelligence needs.

Provides input to business requirements for the design of solutions.

Interprets business requirements and determines optimum BI solutions to meet needs.

Shape the tactical execution of the data management program in accordance with data governance policies

Write SQL queries to research issues and prototype data solutions

Leverage data in the team's efforts in reducing risk, creating secure systems, and tackling data integrity issues across our enterprise.

Provides support for user community

Dive deep into data related issues to solve problems and find new ways we can win in this space

Conducts analysis of functional business processes

May perform analysis for a wide range of requests using data in different formats and from various platforms

Identifies and provides input to new technology opportunities that will have an impact on Enterprise wide BI solutions.

Perform other duties as assigned.


Bachelor's Degree

In lieu of Degree, relevant experience may be considered.



With Bachelor's Degree:

Minimum of 5 years of Data Analysis.

Minimum of 2 years of Data Validation experience.

Minimum of 3 years of SQL SQL and Oracle database experience.

Minimum of 2 years of working Knowledge of Relational and/or NoSQL Data Structure.

Minimum of 2 years of experience on Data Governance Projects.

Minimum of 3 years of Agile experience.

Experience in the Healthcare industry and/or working with highly regulated data (e.g. PHI and PII)


Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Ability to garner support and consensus to move projects forward with the best outcomes.

Strong data and business analysis skills with the ability to write SQL queries.

As a Senior Data Solutions Analyst based in Los Angeles, you will serve as an investment management data expert with limited supervision. You will provide direction to Analysts and Associates and assist them in completing their assignments. You will participate in the training and development of other associates and serve as a positive role model and mentor. Responsibilities: * Provide guidance on prioritizing data requirements within a business unit * Evaluate new and alternative data sources and new integration techniques * Contribute to data models and designs for the data warehouse * Plan, contribute, and sign off on user acceptance tests for production deployments * Provide input into IT backlog prioritization * Provide guidance in design sessions and peer review * Work with complex data structures and provide innovative ways to solution for complex data delivery requirements * Prototype complex reporting and/or data visualization solutions in partnership with IT and other business units * Establish standards for documentation and ensure your team adheres to those standards * Stay current with industry trends on data automation and visualization tools * Participate in evaluation of emerging technologies * Influence and develop a thorough understanding of standards and best practices used by your team Qualifications: * 6+ years of advanced knowledge and professional quantitative experience * 6+ years of experience with business intelligence, reporting, and data transformation * Demonstrated experience in translating unstructured business problems into clearly defined requirements framework * Demonstrated experience in leading projects across multiple teams * Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or other quantitative field required * Advanced knowledge of SQL * Advanced understanding of analytics and data mining * Advanced knowledge technical and functional designs for databases, ETL, data warehousing, and reporting * Advanced knowledge scripting tools for automation such as R, Python, Alteryx, etc. * Advanced knowledge with reporting/data visualization tools such as Tableau, SSRS, etc. * Demonstrated understanding of Hadoop or other big data solutions * Demonstrated ability to test software and ensure that project solutions align to requirements * Understanding of advanced analytics/data science tools and concepts Company Overview: Founded in 1931, Capital Group is one of the world's largest and most trusted investment management companies and home to the American Funds.
