The Opportunity

The Enterprise Architect (EA) proactively and holistically helps and guides the enterprise leaders, product managers, product owners and MGB Digital experience leaders through transformation and optimization initiatives, supporting the formulation of technology strategy based on the stated business strategies, outcomes and capabilities.

The Enterprise Architect (EA) - Infrastructure, Technology Platforms and Cloud will support the MGB Digital organization by developing technology strategies and providing high-level architecture for all our infrastructures. This includes on-premise and cloud hosting, network connectivity, device strategy, technology and integration platforms, databases, and DevOps capabilities. The role is responsible for ensuring that these strategies are implemented in accordance with established principles and best practices, and for ensuring proper governance is in place. Additionally, this role will lead a small team of Solution and/or Technical Architects.

As a key leader on the Infrastructure, Platforms, and Cloud leadership team, this individual will collaborate and partner with other enterprise leaders and vendors to strategize, design, implement, and support the digital technologies, tools, and processes that underpin core technology for MGB.

In addition to its primary function in Enterprise Architecture, this role will also oversee all planning and operations for the infrastructure, platforms, and cloud group.

This role will directly report to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of MGB.

The principal duties and responsibilities

1.Supports Formulation of Strategy and Guides Execution

  • Define and select cloud, infrastructure and technology platforms to meet MGB's business needs.

  • Define and maintain cloud, infrastructure and platform architecture standards including deployment models and consideration for non-functional requirements.

  • Define and maintain roadmaps required to operationalize infrastructure for a new product / service / platforms.

  • Tell stories to visualize the future state for Infrastructure and platforms and support long-term planning

2.Builds and Maintains Relationships

  • Relationship management with the infrastructure technology partners and conduct periodic business reviews. Collaborate on platform enhancements

  • Support Chief Information Security Officer, Legal, and other compliance groups to ensure the infrastructure meets the desired compliance needs.

  • Coordinate with rest of the Enterprise Architecture teams to ensure right infrastructure configuration is chosen for the applications that will be deployed with appropriate scaling model for future increase in capacity.

  • As a standing member of MGB Enterprise architecture council, accountable for evolving the business capability model for Infrastructure, and Platforms based on the business needs.

3.Orchestrates the Delivery of Business Outcomes

  • Ensure infrastructure developed strictly adheres to the MGB infrastructure strategies, data / technology principles.

  • Ensure the infrastructure architecture meets our high availability and business continuity requirements.

  • Ensure publication and communication of Architecture blueprints across organizations. Communicate and educate organization on the elaborate architecture.

  • Support and govern design blueprints for infrastructure deployments.

  • Accountable to ensure adherence with Security and Compliance policies and procedures in defining architecture standards for the chosen infrastructures.

  • Coordinate withing this group to ensure the infrastructure risk mitigations are in place for business sustainment.

  • Defining features, phases, solution requirements resulting in product roadmaps across several domains

4.Facilitates Innovation

  • Analyze trends and disruptions, and assess their impact on targeted business outcomes in the area Cloud, Infrastructure, Devices, operating systems, DB, Integration, telephony, client desktops etc.

  • Support innovation to scale by partnering with Innovation teams and Infrastructure, platforms and cloud teams

5.Plans and Manages the IT Portfolio

  • Identification, evolution and adoption of architecture patterns, and other reference architecture components to support solution architects in most adequately adapting technical platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS, GCP, SDWAN, SDLAN, infrastructure, servers, operating systems, DB, Integration, telephony, client desktops…)
  • Define retirement / exit strategy for the infrastructures and platforms where needed.

6.Support Solution / Technical Architecture Development

Solution / Technical Architecture refers to the process of designing and organizing the components of a system or application to meet specified requirements. Based on analyzing the functional and non-functional requirements of a system, support the team to carry out the following;

  • Design: Developing a high-level design that outlines the structure and components of the solution.

  • Integration: Ensuring that different components and systems work together seamlessly.

  • Scalability: Designing the solution to handle growth and increased demand.

  • Performance: Optimizing the solution for efficient and effective operation.

  • Security: Addressing security concerns and implementing measures to protect the solution.

  • Flexibility and Extensibility: Designing the solution to be adaptable and easily extended in the future.

7.Support the group's operations.

Support the CTO in managing the day 2 day operations of group

  • By establishing, tracking and reporting metrics to effectively run the group.

  • With interfaces to Digital finance for budgeting and tracking

  • With HR for any talent acquisition.

Working Model

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • This position requires weekly local travel to MGB sites, vendors, and/or conferences.

  • Hospital work environment working conditions include possible exposure to diseases or infections and may require safety gear (PPE) such as gloves and mask.

  • Normal office working conditions. The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; or hear; use hands to finger; handle; or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop; kneel; or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and depth perception.

The key qualifications for this role are;

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related field is desired. Advanced degrees, such as a Master's in Business Administration (MBA) or Information Systems, can be advantageous, especially for understanding the business impact of technology decisions

2.Overall 15 years of professional IT experience with 3 years of leading EA Functions

3.Relevant Professional certifications like TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework), Zachman Framework, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and certifications in cloud computing platforms like AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert.

Skills and Abilities

1.Adapt to changing business, operating models and emerging technologies

2.Coach and mentor other architects, product owners/managers and business stakeholders to instill architectural thinking

3.Deep knowledge of IT infrastructure, including data center operations, cloud computing services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), networking, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies. Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks and methodologies is also essential with relevant certifications desired.

4.Minimum 15 years of experience in IT architecture and operations, with a focus on designing and implementing infrastructure solutions. Must have proven experience in project management, strategic planning, and budget management.

5.Ability to recruit, retain, and direct the solution/technical architecture team (s)

6.Strong leadership and communication skills are crucial and ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and lead cross-functional teams. Analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and a strategic mindset are also important.

Supervisory and Fiscal Duties

  • Be a member of the Infrastructure, Platform and Cloud team's leadership team.

  • It is expected to functionally and directly manage a small number enterprise, solution and technical architects to support cloud, infrastructure and platform architectures.

This role will significantly influence the budget planning and management of cloud, Infrastructure and platform investments.

  • Contribute to the cost optimization, identifying ways to reduce expenses without sacrificing quality, including supporting negotiations with vendor contracts and selecting cost-effective technologies.

  • Contribute to conduct investment analysis to assess the financial viability of new infrastructure investments, analyzing return on investment (ROI) and total cost of ownership (TCO) to guide strategic decisions.
