Job Summary

Recruits new and/or returning students for Bethel University through identifying, qualifying, and cultivating prospective students.


  • Individualized one-to-one recruitment through relationship development and communication with prospective students in specific programs while meeting or exceeding recruitment activity and budget goals.

  • Process student applications and review files based on admissions requirements.

  • Communicate and record file status to prospective student on a regular basis.

  • Facilitate prospective student's admissions process in a timely and efficient manner through the admissions funnel using recruiting best practices for adult students.

  • Execute on and off campus recruitment events to create awareness and interest in Bethel's degree programs. Recruitment events include: open houses, information sessions, conferences, partner visits, and college visits.

  • Collaborate with management team, colleagues, and internal partners to successfully assist prospective students during the application process and provide a seamless admission experience.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

Must be a proven self-starter able to work independently and as part of a team.

Must be detail-oriented and have effective oral and written communication skills.

Must know how to use the appropriate communication tools used in the recruitment process phone, email, chats, text messaging.

Must be able to organize, prioritize, and handle multiple duties.

Must show a proven ability to manage details.

Must be able to handle sensitive, confidential information in a mature and professional manner.

Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and an aptitude for workplace technology.

Ability to work with students of all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds assisting them with the admissions process.

Required Experience
2 or more years of post-baccalaureate work experience and training in higher education, marketing, or sales is preferred.

Required Education

Bachelor's required; Master's preferred.

Additional Information

Ability to lift 25 lbs. and travel required. Must be physically able to carry suitcases and large recruiting displays across large parking lots and up and down flights of stairs.

This is a 1 FTE, 12 months per year position. Must be willing to travel and work non-routine hours as needed during certain times of the year. Some weekends and evenings required for recruiting events.

The Director of Enrollment Services is the strategic leader for the offices of admissions, financial aid, and enrollment management. Reporting to the Dean of Student Services, The director will provide visionary leadership to ignite the Seminary in the pursuit of a comprehensive Enrollment Management plan focused on the understanding of recruitment for calling, the nature of candidacy, the vocational formation process, as well the importance of the student recruitment and admissions experience. As the director, he/she oversees the diversity initiatives set for the Seminary and fosters a Seminary community and campus climate that values and actively supports equity and diversity. As Director of Enrollment Services you will demonstrate and oversee the following responsibilities: * Leadership: The director works in collaboration with administration and faculty to advance the Seminary mission and vision to achieve strategic goals, including enrollment. * Enrollment Management: The director provides leadership and direction in the recruitment of each class, as well as oversight for the development and implementation of the Seminary's recruitment, admission, financial aid and retention policies and practices. The director creates and monitors annual enrollment projections, and collaborates with the Dean of Students to ensure student retention. * Enrollment Strategies: The director, in collaboration with the Academic Dean and Dean of Students, listen carefully to discern those contexts where the Holy Spirit is calling people into ministry in order to develop outreach and discernment strategies and events. The Director partners with faculty, staff and students, when applicable. * Marketing and Communications: The director, in collaboration with the Admissions and Marketing and Communication Office, builds an annual marketing plan in order to form and enhance an inquiry pool for all programs. * Outreach: The director builds relationships with organizations and leaders who will be key partners in identifying and recruiting the next generation of leaders for the church. * Diversity and Inclusion Initiative: The director helps establish a campus culture where diversity is valued and inclusion is encouraged and where students learn to respect differences, take responsibility for their actions, and exercise leadership. Oversee the implementation of the Seminarys plan for diversity: Build authentic and collaborative working relationships with external diverse communities and stakeholders * Enrollment Services Staff Leadership Development: The director effectively models, coaches, reinforces and supports the growth and development of the staff to realize their fullest potential and to meet the needs of the mission and vision of the Seminary. * Budget Management: The director will have oversight and management for the enrollment services budgets. * Perform duties as assigned in the interest of the seminary. A. Understanding, appreciation and commitment to Luther Seminarys Mission and Vision. B. Required education and experience: * Bachelors degree * 5-7 years of leadership experience in Christian ministry or a higher education setting * Competency in computer and technology resources. * Outstanding interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication skills. * Proactive approach that builds relationships: Externally with the church leaders and organizations who are key partners in student recruitment, * Ability to think strategically about the recruitment and preparation of leaders for churches in our context of significant social change. Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities: * Masters degree preferred. * Strong Christian faith commitment and understanding of the varied kinds of current and emerging Christian ministries for which seminary students prepare. Ability to engage with prospective students in the process of vocational discernment. * A leader who works collaboratively in building a team of staff members who will enable the seminary to recruit and retain the students needed by the church for its mission. * Demonstrated intercultural competency in a leadership role. * Familiarity with the ELCA and other Christian traditions from which our current and prospective students will come. * Luther Seminary is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
