Henry Ford College presents an opportunity for an Enrollment Associate II - Veterans Services (Part-time)

Hours 24/week Tuesday through Thursday  8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Veterans Services Assistant will work directly with the manager of the Office of Veterans Services as the first Point of Contact to assist military affiliated students with educational benefit information, VA certifications, and assisting current military connected students with federal and state tuition assistance programs. Using a high level of detail, this role will assist in certifying student enrollment, attendance, completion, and processes via the VA Online Certification Enrollment system (VA ONCE). The successful candidate will assist in meeting all federal and state compliance regulations, maintain confidentiality of office records, and work with other HFC departments to assist students.

  • Associate degree or a combination of education and related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Experience in both internal and external customer service.  Willingness to provide assistance and patience to a diverse population via telephone, email, and in-person.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsofe Office 365, specifically Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

  • Experience using an integrated student information system or willingness to learn (Current HFC systems include Colleague by Ellucian)

  • Willingness to complete annual mandatory online training offered through the Veterans Administration to become and maintain role as School Certifying Official.

  • Willingness to attend both virtual and in-person training for updates in regulations and best practices in providing services to military connected students.

  • Act as a main point of contact for students requesting information about VA (Veterans Administration) educational benefits, Federal Tuition Assistance or State Tuition Assistance benefits.

  • Assist students with applying for educational benefits and meeting requirements to report student's status including, but not limited to: initial enrollment certification, monitoring subjects pursued by students based on academic program requirements, changes to student's enrollment status, reporting end-of-term grades when required, graduation, academic progress, and academic dismissal status.

  • Maintain records in accordance with VA compliance regulations, including enrollment and certification records.  Assist with generation of VA compliance reports required by semester or annually.

  • Assist in maintenance and reporting academic programs offered by HFC for approval through Michigan State Approving Agency (SAA) each academic year.

  • Keep up to date on current VA and DoD (Department of Defense) benefits and regulations through U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs School Certifying Official Handbook, communication with VA Education Liaison Representative (ELR), official communications, webinars, and attendance at training opportunities.

  • Complete initial and annual mandatory VA training requirements to become and maintain status as a School Certifying Official.

  • Work closely with other departments to meet compliance requirements, provide student service and resolve issues.

  • Assist in planning events (e.g. Veterans Day Commemoration for military students with Student Veterans Association (SVA) and other HFC departments.

  • Assist in maintaining Veterans Center on campus.

  • Complete other duties as assigned.
