What you'll do:

  • Using hand and/or power tools or equipment to perform a wide range of landscape and irrigation duties

  • Laying sod

  • Planting

  • Watering

  • Fertilizing

  • Digging

  • Raking

  • Installing sprinklers

  • Installing mortarless segmental concrete masonry wall units

Additionally, employees are expected to abide by all internal control & compliance practices to:

  • Safeguard assets from theft and misuse

  • Ensure segregation of duties to minimize fraud

  • Comply with business ethics, applicable laws and regulation

  • Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information

  • Periodically reconcile physical assets to accounting records

Skills we're seeking:

  • Use hand equipment with mechanized moving blades such as gas powered shears

  • Use manual hand tools such as shovels

  • Work from elevated heights such as an 8' A-frame ladder

  • Use a hand shovel for extended period

  • Moves soil, equipment, and materials, digs holes, and plant trees, shrubs and flowers.

  • 6 months commercial landscape experience preferred but not required

  • Interested candidates must submit a resume/CV online to be considered

  • Work in/or about situations near direct automotive traffic

  • Work near or about natural bodies of water

  • Work 8+ hours per day with applicable breaks x 5 days/week (some overtime/weekend work required)

  • Ability to work in extreme conditions temperatures may exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit

  • Ability to work in direct sunlight for extended periods of time

  • Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs. (mulch, fertilizer, etc.)

  • Ability to load/unload burlaps with plant cuttings onto trailer (up to 50 lbs.)

  • Ability to bend, stoop and twist continuously throughout the day

Note: Positions will be assigned based off of experience and qualifications listed below. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Highway Operations Worker: $12.56 Grade 13 Highway Operations Worker is the entry level position for the Highway Operations Technician series. The scope of the duties and basic tasks to be learned include; operation of motorized vehicles and equipment, pavement care, and preservation, landscape care and preservation, roadside shoulder restoration and repairs, signing and striping, delivery of equipment and materials, environmental compliance, vehicle and equipment care. Requirement: * Employees must obtain their Arizona CDL (Class "A") permit within 90 days from the date of hire and a Arizona Class "A" Commercial Driver's license (CDL) for a manual transmission (no automatic only restriction) is required within 6 months of hire. * This position responds to emergency call outs (24 hours a day, seven days a week); must be able to respond to Maintenance yard within 30 minutes. Physical Demands: * Depending on the work location and assignment, positions allocated to this classification can encounter extremes of cold and heat, considerable time away from home base, rugged terrain, and high speed traffic conditions. * This position requires one to lift/carry – push/pull 50 lbs. The preferred candidate for this position will have: 6 months of Roadway/Highway job related experience as determined by the assigned area's needs which may include operating motorized vehicles and heavy-duty equipment and maintenance, signing/striping of roadways, pavement care and preservation, roadway operations, tunnel maintenance, or landscape care and preservation. Highway Operations Tech 1: $15.28/hr. Grade 17 Highway Operations Tech 1 is the apprentice classification for the series. Will be trained to perform more advanced duties which include; operation of motorized vehicles and equipment, pavement care and preservation, landscape care and preservation, roadside shoulder restoration and repairs, signing and striping, delivery of equipment and materials, environmental compliance, vehicle and equipment care. Requirements: * An Arizona Class "A" Commercial Driver's license (CDL) for a manual transmission (no automatic only restriction) and a (N) tanker endorsement is required prior to the start date. Based on the assigned area additional endorsements may be required. * This position responds to emergency call outs (24 hours a day, seven days a week); must be able to respond to Maintenance yard within 30 minutes. Some duties and basic tasks include; operation of motorized vehicles and equipment, pavement care and preservation, landscape care and preservation, roadside shoulder restoration and repairs, signing and striping, delivery of equipment and materials, environmental compliance, vehicle and equipment care. In this series the employee will also take on the duties of scheduling, assigning, and overseeing subordinates work, inspecting work, training, and guiding staff in duties mentioned above for the series. Requirement: * An Arizona Class "A" Commercial Driver's license (CDL) for a manual transmission (no automatic only restriction) and a (N) tanker endorsement is required prior to the start date. Based on the assigned area additional endorsements may be required. * This position responds to emergency call outs (24 hours a day, seven days a week); must be able to respond to Maintenance yard within 30 minutes. Highway Operations Tech 3: $18.34/hr. Grade 19 Highway Operations Tech 3 is the full journey classification for the series. Responsibility for performing a broad scope of high level highway operation duties and/or supervisor responsibilities. Some duties and basic tasks include; operation of motorized vehicles and equipment, pavement care and preservation, landscape care and preservation, roadside shoulder restoration and repairs, signing and striping, delivery of equipment and materials, environmental compliance, vehicle and equipment care. In this series the employee will also take on the duties of scheduling, assigning, and overseeing subordinates work, inspecting work, training, and guiding staff in duties mentioned above for the series.
