Terms of Employment

Salary and work year according to current schedule, 205 contract days plus 10 additional days for a total of 215

Job Goal:

To ensure state and federal regulations are met through system-wide practices resulting in high performing English development programs

Qualifications:

  • Hold a M.A. with a TESOL or bilingual endorsement

  • Evidence of success in the implementation of effective instructional practices in teaching English learners based on student achievement data

  • Five years of demonstrated knowledge, skills and teaching success with ELs

  • Experience working with ELs in low socio- economic populations

  • Expertise in application and teaching with technology

  • Strong evidence of ability to work effectively and collaborating with other educators

  • Ability to lead, facilitate, model, and coach teachers in the effective use of student structures to optimize structured interaction and successful learning outcomes

  • Must possess strong oral and written language skills

Demonstrated Areas of Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Ability to demonstrate effective standards-based instruction of ELs through the use of a variety of scientifically research- based teaching methods

  • Knowledge of best practices in the field of teaching and working with socioeconomically disadvantaged students and communities

  • Ability to study, disaggregate, analyze and draw conclusions about student English language proficiency (ACCESS 2.0) as well as student achievement data

  • Ability to implement differentiated instructional strategies to address needs of ELs based on data analysis of ELP and academic achievement data

  • Ability to create and implement instructional units and assessments to effectively teach and assess ELs

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Ability to model and coach best instructional practices for teachers of ELs

  • Self-directed, ability to take initiative, committed to supporting the goals of the organization

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build sustainable relationships with teachers and building administration to communicate and support the development of school wide and teacher professional development plans including 90 day plans.

  • Engage in data discussion though the scope of utilizing sheltered techniques when teaching L2 to students

  • Assist in coordinating with school administrators to restructure EL programs.

  • Support school administrators and teachers in implementing best practices in supporting English Learners.

  • Ensure that EL program protocols are followed as outlined in the district's EL program plan.

  • Support staffing and budgeting of the EL and Immigrant programs.

  • Assist in coordinating the scheduling, restructuring and implementation of English Language Development instruction throughout the school district.

  • Support and mentor ELD teachers in the district.

  • Assist in federal and state reporting ensuring requirements are met, including writing Title III reports and grants.

  • Assist in coordinating the progress monitoring of EL students

  • Assist in coordinating and supporting the district's English development program in all schools.

  • Support school administrators and teachers in implementing best practices in supporting English development in dual language programs.

  • Analyze on-going formative/summative data of program effectiveness for EL and language immersion programs.

  • Any other duties as directed by the department director.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk and reach

with arms and hands, use hands and fingers to write, type and handle. The employee is

frequently required to listen and speak. Employee must be able to lift and/or move up

to 25 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral and

color vision. Depth perception and ability to focus vision are required.

Work Environment

Must be able to work within various degrees of noise and temperature. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After hour work may be required. Will make site visits as needed. May work under stressful conditions on occasion.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board of Education's policy.
