The Johnstown-Monroe Local School District is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the position of English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher to serve ELL students in grades K-12 beginning the 2024-2025 school year.

Contract:

Salary: Per Teacher Salary Schedule

Length of Contract: Per Teacher Negotiated Agreement

Reports to:

Student Services Coordinator

Coordinates with:

K-12 Building Principals, Classroom Teachers, Student Support Staff, ELL Paraprofessional and ELL Tutor.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Ohio Elementary and/or Secondary Teaching License. Prefer K-12 Licensure.

  • Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) K-12 Certification.

  • Experience teaching EL students preferred; but, will train right candidate.

  • Co-teaching experience preferred.

  • Outstanding personal/interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to keep concise records.

  • Sensitivity to the developmental stages of children; sensitivity to second language development/acquisition and cultural awareness.

  • Openness towards parent communication.

  • Experience with technology in facilitating instruction.

  • Willingness to be flexible in terms of teaching assignment within the school setting.

Experience:

1 to 5 years teaching experience preferred.

Duties and Essential Functions:

  • Establish lesson plans and implement curriculum based on Ohio's English Language Proficiency Standards.

  • Implement classroom activities that support curriculum and student learning.

  • Assist in establishing effective daily teacher schedules.

  • Demonstrate flexible teaching: whole-group, small group, individual student and co-teaching.

  • Monitor English Language Learner's progress in English (reading, writing, listening and speaking), content-area classwork, attendance, and general school behavior.

  • Administer assessments of language proficiency tests for English Language Learners, both initial and yearly standardized, and maintain all documentation.

  • Prepare and maintain all Limited English Proficiency (LEP) plans required for state documentation for English Language Learners on caseload.

  • Show knowledge of a wide range of academic scaffolds and accommodations and use of those within the content-area and ESL classroom.

  • Collaborate with content-area teachers to support English Language Learners' academic success. Knowledge of co-teaching and relationship-building skills to support ELL student learning within the classroom.

  • Promote collaboration and team-building. Builds rapport with staff and community.

  • Assess the accomplishments of the ELL students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.

  • Knowledge of the Response to Intervention (RTI) process and seeks support of appropriate specialists when need arises.

  • Provide support to ELL students with disabilities.

  • Meet with, facilitate, and document communication with parents.

  • Assist teachers throughout the building in fostering communication.

  • Provide technical assistance and generalized support to content-area teachers regarding ELL students.

  • Provide training and assistance to buildings and individual teachers to ensure appropriate identification of ELL student support and services to ELL students and general classroom accommodations for ELL students.

  • Attend all staff meetings, team meetings, trainings and professional development as required.

  • Maintain appropriate reports and documentation for all ELL students as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.
