Overview: The ELL Literacy Acquisition Teacher services and supports students who are new to the US and have little to no understanding of English. These services are in collaboration with other agencies, with regular classroom teachers, with parents, and throughout the community, and they provide tools and resources which help to enrich ELL students.
Job Responsibilities:
Teaches elementary curriculum as outlined by District No. 5 curriculum guides and the department.
Provides wrap-around orientation in collaboration with Heart Locker including administration of WIDA screener, review of Home Language Survey, support of enrollment process to ensure appropriate placement, and determination of MKV status.
Provides direct English instruction in a specialized class setting.
Provides collaborative teaching and support within inclusive settings.
Design and Identifies curriculum, assessment and interventions aligned with Personalized, Competency-Based Education (PCBE).
Provides PD around cultural awareness, effective inclusive strategies and scaffolding academic content.
Serves as an advocate for ELL students and families.
Collaborates and consults with teachers re: accommodations and modifications.
Facilitates communication between school, families and community services.
Identifies resources and tools that support/enrich learning, in both English and the child’s native language.
Supports transition back to neighborhood school.
Serves as a member of the District ELL Committee.
Administers WIDA assessments and progress, monitors growth, and supports other district-wide and statewide testing as necessary.
Prepares and maintains documentation for Title reporting.
Meets the diverse needs of students in the classroom by providing an appropriate learning environment.
Provides quality instruction by using effective lesson plan development and strategies.
Facilitates learning utilizing online platforms.
Establishes effective classroom management, safety procedures, and behavior expectations.
Works creatively, cooperatively, and establishes positive relationships with colleagues and guardians of students.
Participates in school and district professional development activities.
Attends building and district meetings as required.
