ADULT SCHOOL TEACHER

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The Adult School Teacher develops and teaches skills and knowledge in one or more courses offered in the Adult School.

ADMINISTRATIVE RELATIONSHIP

The Adult School Classroom Teacher is directly responsible to the Director of Adult Education.

MINIMUM DEGREES/CREDENTIALS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR POSITION

Valid California teaching credential.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Be aware of and conform to state, county, district, and school regulations which affect him/her
2.Utilize district approved course outline.
3.Instruct students in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course(s) of study specified in state law and district regulations and procedures.
4.Seek to teach students the proper function and value of education in American society.
5.Identify student needs, cooperate with professional staff to help students solve health, learning and attitude problems, and actively seek to help each student succeed in class.
6.Develop, implement, assess, and revise lesson plans and instructional materials.
7.Provide a wide range of teaching strategies as one element of implementing individualized instruction.
8.Seek to create an environment for learning that is functional and attractive.
9.Evaluate academic growth of students and communicate that to the students; record and report this evaluation when the student is seeking credit.
10. Interpret the school program and specific elements of it to the student.
11. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior consistent with district and adult school behavior policies.
12. Cooperate in the selection and/or development of books, AV aids, pamphlets, learning units, equipment, etc., necessary to implementation of the learning function.
13. Plan and coordinate the work of paraprofessionals, where applicable.
14. Participate in in-service activities organized by the Adult School.
15. Maintain accurate attendance records, turn in attendance records to office according to established due dates; inform Director immediately if class falls below minimum size.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Adult Education.

Only EdJoin applications will be considered.ACCEL Stipend for Adult Education CredentialThe ACCEL Consortium is providing the adult schools in San Mateo County with a stipend to teachers to reimburse them 75% of their costs (not to exceed a total reimbursement of $2,475 over the course of the program) for obtaining their adult education credential. Once a candidate is enrolled in an adult education credential program and has been recommended by the program for a Preliminary Credential, the person may begin teaching at an adult school.
