Job Summary

Estrella Mountain Community College is hiring English adjunct faculty to work under the Arts & Composition division. This position will provide instruction in first year composition courses to a diverse student population; engage students and motivate student success while teaching classes in a variety of modalities using a variety of instruction and assessment methods and technologies.

Essential Functions

Instructs and supervises a diverse population of students in first year composition courses; Develops written/digital syllabi/course outlines/materials; Evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and monitors students' scholastic records; Prepares and grades papers/projects; Holds support hours as needed to assist and advise students; Remains aware and current with services/resources available to students to engage/support their success and when applicable, connects students; Remains aware and current with issues/trends in the field through multiple means; Promotes the scholarship of teaching and learning by participating in professional development opportunities translates learning from those experiences into the classroom/campus; Works collaboratively with other faculty members to improve student learning through a variety of ways; Actively explores ways to be innovative, creative and engaging in the classroom/campus.

Minimum Qualifications

1.A Master's Degree or higher in one of the following fields: English, Rhetoric, Composition, Literature, Creative Writing, English Education, Journalism, New Media Studies, Teaching English as a Second Language, Linguistics,

Or

A Master's Degree in any field with 18 graduate semester hours in these prefixes/subjects:ENG, ENH, LIT, ENGL, RHET, WTG, COMP, CRW, LIN, JRN, ESL, BLE, BME, Rhetoric, Literature, Critical Thinking, Composition, Literacy, Linguistics, Writing

Or

A Master's Degree in any field with 18 graduate-level courses with these keywords will be evaluated to verify applicability: HUM, SPC, LAE, EDU, HED, IDS, RDG, Culture, Language, Critical Theory, Critical Analysis, Reading

2.EDU 250 - Teaching and Learning in the Community College -- or equivalent must be completed within two years of date of hire

Special Working Conditions

Ability to teach in a variety of modalities, dates, times dependent on needs of department/campus
