Supports innovative technology development in composites and new business development by researching and developing new designs, processes & manufacturing technologies in thermoset & thermoplastic materials. Applies principles of aerospace and mechanical engineering.
Designs & fabricates prototype structures that integrate requirements from mating structure and systems interfaces. Supports technology development keeping an eye towards transition to production programs. Develops test plans to evaluate designs for producibility, cost and structural integrity.
Conveys engineering design intent using CATIA. Develops and maintains an engineering bill of material and product structure. Designs and specifies the supporting fabrication of tools and equipment.
Supports development of manufacturing processes. Provides input to the organization regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize existing equipment and facilities. Works closely with integrated product team to complete tasks.
Work with customers and integrated product teams to understand requirements. Research thermoplastic material capabilities and develop novel design concepts.
Work with peers, subcontractors and vendors to develop solutions to meet customer requirements for composite structures. Support or lead development projects from planning through completion. Interface and coordinate tool design, fabrication and inspection.
Provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organization objectives. Work under general direction but independently plan, develop and analyze solutions.
Stay abreast of composite technologies through conferences, forums, and industry engagements. Generate patent applications as needed.
Collaborate within the team to generate solutions for complex problems. Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts.
The successful candidate will typically have a bachelor's degree in engineering and a minimum of 3 years of related experience or equivalent post graduate education. Desired candidate will have experience with composites and metals in a prototype production environment and CATIA experience.
R&D experience preferable. Thermoplastic material experience a plus. Ability to deal with ambiguity, coordinate and generate plans in a development environment, and changing customer requirements is a plus.
