The Engineering Technologist role has the opportunity to help shape ground-breaking products and processes. It's a fascinating field of work. We're involved in assessing the competition, developing technology and product strategies and generating business models for emerging technologies. We assist in use case investigations, analyze industry capabilities and identify potential acquisitions or ecosystem partner opportunities. Our insights influence product architecture and definitions. And we work with colleagues across the business to ensure Dell products always lead the way.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze emerging technology use cases over a two-to-five year time span for influence and impact on Dell EMC products, strategy, and technology

  • Mine internal data for key customer trends and business opportunities

  • Develop forecasting models (under different assumptions and scenarios) to support emerging technology initiatives

  • Translate qualitative information (through surveys and one on one interviews) into fact based results, leading to actionable recommendations

  • Conduct market research activities to describe leading industry use cases, as well as our customers, competitors and key business partners

  • Build a solid understanding of the internal and external data sources available to categorize technology lifecycle and support/refute key hypotheses

  • Define and create fact-based, analytically-driven business models and technology success metrics to support new products/services based on emerging technologies

  • Understand Dell-EMC business capabilities and requirements, the market's demands and any gaps that exist which can be addressed by new technology developments

  • Champion the usage of industry process and best practices around weak signal analysis, what if scenario planning, and investment prioritization

  • Ability to work collaboratively across functions within the industry (i.e. analysts, partners, universities) to produce an industry insights dashboard

Essential Requirements

  • Experience in developing successful business cases and metrics

  • Considerable product experience at a technology vendor, with demonstrated impact and progression of responsibility

  • Strong technical aptitude, including good working knowledge of storage, compute, database, networking, and virtualization technologies

  • Ability to combine big-thinking strategic perspective with a detail-oriented approach to problem solving

  • Entrepreneurial, can-do approach coupled with a strong desire to make a difference

  • Strong presence and ability to evangelize efforts with a wide range of personalities

  • Proficient in driving for results, with a sense of accountability and ability to change pace and focus due to dynamic ecosystem

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of product oriented or related technology experience in enterprise software, hardware, or services

  • Bachelors' degree in computer science, engineering, or technical concentration required. MBA a strong plus
