The position (K0227965)
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has an Engineering Trainee/Engineering Associate/Professional Environmental Engineer opening in the Bureau of Environmental Remediation's Topeka office. Engineers with experience ranging from Trainee to Associate to Professional will be considered. This engineering position reviews and prepares technical engineering documents relating to soil and groundwater remedial system designs and underground storage tank system designs. Field work includes overseeing and conducting start-up, operating, and post-construction inspections on BER-approved remedial system designs. Project management includes providing technical engineering and operational assistance for the operation of soil and groundwater contamination treatment systems. The position requires a strong communicator.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Review technical engineering documents relating to soil and groundwater remedial system designs to ensure documents conform to state statutes, regulations, bureau policies, environmental program objectives, and sound engineering principles and practices. Prepare technical comments for review by bureau licensed professional engineer (P.E.) prior to forwarding on to bureau project manager. Technical reviews are to be conducted in a timely and professional manner. The purpose of these reviews is to ensure the preferred interim remedial measure (IRM), corrective action, or final remedy are appropriate for the contamination identified at the site based on geologic conditions, field pilot test results, and program remedial objectives.
Conduct start-up, operating, and post-construction inspections on bureau-approved remedial system designs, independently or with other KDHE staff. System operational data should be reviewed and analyzed in order to make recommendations for trouble shooting problems or to improve operations. Installed remedial equipment and deficiencies are to be documented for compliance with agency approved designs. Field observations, suggestions, and/or recommendations are to be discussed with BER P.E. then complied in a memorandum for distribution to the bureau project manager for follow-up and resolution. Observe and/or participate in field studies, pilot tests or demonstrations of remedial technologies conducted by remediation program participants or their environmental consultants for purposes of evaluating the viability and applicability of implementing a full-scale remedial design as an interim remedial measure (IRM) or final remedy.
