Engineering Technologist II

Position Summary

The Engineering Technologist II position is second level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification. The Engineering Technologist II applies technical expertise to solve more complex problems and management skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with some supervision. Employees in the Engineering Technologist Ii position are expected to develop deeper technical skills and the ability to work with an increasing degree of independence.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Applies technical expertise in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise

  • Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities

  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches with some guidance

  • Conducts engineering and related studies

  • Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance

  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities

  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Maintains accurate records and files

  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally

  • Operation of advanced metering Infrastructure data collection systems; providing accurate and timely load data for Residential and Commercial billing through automated data retrieval, data verification and troubleshooting of meter/communication platforms and billing data resolution

  • Advise Telecom Technicians of possible communication issues with nodes/APs/CGRs outage communication issues in their area of responsibility and work with them to correct

  • Communicate meter communication failures to Service Techs for investigation and resolution

  • Assist during the meter field troubleshooting process by providing collection system technical support

  • Monitor system status including application health, communication node/AP/CGR/Relay/Range Extender status, and other system related device performance

  • Review system generated reports to determine actions required

  • Verify successful transfer of metering data to Energy Data Management (EDM)/Meter Data Management (MDM) systems at multiple checkpoints throughout the day

  • Perform meter data exception processing to ensure accurate and timely data is provided to the EDM/MDM systems

  • Monitor ROF (Remote Order Fulfillment) orders for remote connects/disconnects to prevent errors and truck rolls

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology, OR an Associate's degree in Engineering Technology with a minimum of two (2) years of experience, OR a minimum of six (six) years of experience in lieu of a degree

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience in the utility industry

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Well versed in AMI technology and demonstrated ability to teach others, help others resolve problems and provide support

  • Experience with Automated Meter Reading and Customer Information Systems

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments

  • Understanding of basic principles of project management

  • Experience with Advanced Meter Infrastructure & OpenWay platform

  • Direct experience with AMI operations

Leading large projects for in-building and venues on end to end level; resolving problems in a timely fashion; fostering a sense of teamwork; working well in an unstructured environment; engaging in group activities; translating functional/operational goals into team goals; establishing and modifying processes as needed to meet new challenges; demonstrating original thinking, openness to change, and alternative solutions and assuming ownership for decisions and results. Also hands on expertise on managing program budget, financial reporting and tracking and spending projection on monthly, quarterly basis is essential to this role. Job Description: * The work you will be doing will deliver the network infrastructure for in-building systems in Carolinas / TN. We will look to you to meet critical deadlines for small and large cross-functional and enterprise-wide projects and solve the complex problems that the team may face along the way. * Your role will be pivotal to coordinate activities within the various in-building network function and across other teams to make completing complex projects look easy. * You will be handling technical program management of all aspects of in-building/ DAS deployments in region. * You will be preparing the overall delivery schedule and time line, escalating issues internally and externally to meet deliverables, managing project budget internally (and with vendor as needed), and reporting status of deliverables. * You will also act as single POC for all sales/ enterprise related requests for varying scale of in-building network request, work with your counterparts at HQ to ensure processes are in place for projects to flow from end to end. * Additional responsibilities include managing large venues/ high capacity events for network project RF design and implementation (weather new builds/ modifications/ overlays/ upgrade etc). * You will plan, and track budget spending for current fiscal year as well as provide data to market financial analysts for monthly tracking. * Compute and track program spending. * Use analytical tools/ method to create reporting to show deficit/ overspend as well as to see which area can gain capital spending efficiencies and then apply appropriate method working with various cross functional group to achieve it.
