  • Description*
    SAIC is looking for an Engineering Tech VI in Crane, IN to support the US Navy in the Small Arms Prototype Shop.

The Engineering Technician V performs non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity, using operational precedents that are not fully applicable, such assignments that are typically parts of broader assignments, are screened to eliminate unusual design problems.

Duties and Respnsibilities:

  • Candidates will be required to operate one or more than one type of machine tool (e.g., jig borer, grinding machine, engine lathe, milling machine) to machine metal for use in making or maintaining jigs, fixtures, cutting tools, gauges, or metal dies or molds used in shaping or forming metal or nonmetallic material (e.g., plastic, plaster, rubber, glass).

  • Tasked with planning and performing difficult machining operations which require complicated setups or a high degree of accuracy, setting up machine tool or tools (e.g., installing cutting tools and adjusting guides, stops, working tables, and other controls to handle the size of stock to be machined.

  • Will be required to determine proper feeds, speeds, tooling, and operation sequence or selects those prescribed in drawings, blueprints, or layouts). Work also involves using a variety of precision measuring instruments, making necessary adjustments during machining operation to achieve requisite dimensions to very close tolerances.

  • This candidate shall have extensive knowledge of machine shop and tool room practice.

  • Possess the mechanical aptitude for disassembly and assembly of complex mechanisms.

  • Possess extensive knowledge of MasterCam computer aided manufacturing software, along with the ability to create and edit 3D models within Creo PTC computer aided design software. The contractor shall possess knowledge of basic weapon system function to assist in continued maintenance.

  • Will be required to operate and provide training on Hurco and HAAS lines of equipment controllers. CREO design software will be utilized as well as other software.

    Required Education:

A.S. Tool Engineering Technology, ITT Technical Institute or graduate of college; majoring as a Machinist and 8+ years' experience

  • Required Skills:

  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust.

  • Candidate must be a US Citizen.

  • Knowledge of Military and/or NSWC Crane operations.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Extensive experienced Computer Numeric Controlled (CNC) machinery programmer and operator

  • Extensive experienced with use of Mastercam 2017, NX I-deas and Computer Aided Drafting (CAD/AutoCAD)

  • Proficient at creating preventive maintenance schedules according to documentation, performing scheduledand unscheduled maintenance, and troubleshooting and repairs of machinery and equipment.

  • Skilled in machining processes and operations.

  • High degree of knowledge of engineering principles, terminology, and design practices.

  • Practiced designer and maintainer of hydraulic equipment and presses.

  • Proficient with pneumatic and hand tools, measuring equipment, and machinery.

  • Proficient in sheet metal fabrication; welding, carpentry, and construction.

Possess knowledge of basic weapon system function to assist in continued maintenance, testing and firing of weapons. *JOB DUTIES:* * Knowledge of government to contractor liaison and the ability to manage the overall picture of shop workload within not only the production floor, but also the machine shop and test ranges. * Knowledge of Small Arms parts supply and the associated weapons listed within the scope of the TO which those parts belong. * Ability to troubleshoot issues and oversee the training and quality of subordinate personnel. * Ability to review weapon maintenance requirement documentation and provide information for validation/verification and updates or experiments and redesigns as necessary and recording and evaluating data and reports findings. * Consult with government officials in all facets concerning the indoor/outdoor range, ammunition coordination * Perform government to contractor liaison duties and manage the overall picture of test ranges; specifically the SWAF.
