Engineering Technician

SUMMARY

Reporting to an Engineering Supervisor, this position will create drawings and bills of materials for standard and custom building product lines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Prepare CAD drawings for standard and custom building product lines.

• Compile bills of materials required to construct buildings.

• Prepare CAD drawings of custom building details as required.

• Enter and maintain data in manufacturing software.

• Creation of parts including CAD drawings and entering data in manufacturing software.

• May include checking of bills of materials and drawings for standard and custom buildings.

• Read and interpret contracts and other documents including: work requests, customers.

site plans, product improvement memos, and layout sketches.

• Visit job sites for training on new parts and erection methods as available.

• May include answering telephone calls from customers and erectors regarding specific building designs.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

The candidate we seek will have an associate degree or equivalent from a two-year school or technical school. Must have experience using AutoCAD.

A candidate with an understanding of sheet metal building components and or pre-engineered metal building systems is preferred. Must be detail oriented.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as correspondence, bills of materials, drawings, and procedure manuals in English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in English. Ability to speak English effectively in person and over the telephone.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must have valid driver's license. Occasional travel may be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While this position will consist of office work, it is in a manufacturing facility. The employee may have to be on the production floor surrounded by moving mechanical parts and equipment as well as on job sites, as necessary.

The employee must comply with the dress code and PPE requirement such as safety glasses with side shields and steel toed shoes. Temperatures and noise levels vary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.

The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move greater than 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include depth perception and color vision.

Ability to read drawings, contracts and other business documents. Also, able to distinguish between colors on a computer screen, in order to efficiently use CAD.
