The Role

The Engineering Technician will will be responsible for performing all Manufacturing Introduction Builds, line trials and maintaining the PMI area. This person is expected to be able to execute against provided manufacturing instructions (when available), validate their own work, check the quality of previous operations. Cross functional mentoring of production associates and other members of the Manufacturing staff are key components of success for this role. The Engineering Technician is expected to be able to provide feedback, lead builds in defined area, define standard work, suggest process improvements. Experience with hand tools and use of semi-automated manufacturing equipment is necessary as well as the ability to meet scheduled goal dates.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex and precise electro-mechanical assembly work and be able to work independently once a task is assigned, make connections with other employees, works fluidly with the team to achieve great results.

  • Typically involves a variety of operations, including troubleshooting and rework, requiring a sufficient understanding of the functional operation of the items assembled as well as the finished product.

  • Must be able to work from complex and detailed manufacturing documentation, drawings, and/or verbal and written instructions and specialized fixtures/test equipment.

  • Have a quick and flexible approach to problem solving, task juggling, and collaboration.

  • Responsible for quality activities, including self-inspection, and inspection. Be comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously, interacting with multiple teams.

  • Updates production records and test results, records process improvements, and manufacturability suggestions.

  • Communicates test results, ideas and problems to supervisor and engineers.

  • Identify discrepant materials/components both in writing and verbally to supervisor.

  • Complete tasks as directed by manufacturing schedules and within standard times and maintain a clean and orderly work area.

  • Escalate build issues through the proper channels and group until resolution

  • Coach and effectively lead production teams through launches

  • Support PMI Trial build activities

  • Maintain NPI Pilot Lines to keep current with changes in product design and manufacturing process

Qualifications/Skills

  • AS degree or other with demonstrated evidence of exceptional ability

  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in assembly of electro-mechanical components.

  • Previous experience collaborating, leading, and mentoring indirect reporting teams of 5 or more

  • Basic understanding of electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.

  • Ability to read and understand manufacturing instructions and mechanical drawings with basic understanding of electrical systems.

  • Must have a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail married with the ability to work quickly.

  • Basic machine shop skills desired

  • Ability to perform repetitious duties while standing for long periods of time.

  • Ability to lift 30 lbs

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe working environment.

  • Fluent in MS Office Suite

VIEW JOBS 12/14/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-03-14T00:00 The PMI (Product Manufacturing Introduction) Program Manager will be responsible for the introduction of new products/processes supporting energy product lines at our Gigafactory 2 location in Buffalo, NY. This includes managing the project from early prototype builds through to the launch of the production line, and requires an exceptional capacity for cross functional interaction and leadership. The PMI Program Manager will manage a cross functional team to develop program schedules, track their progress against these plans, and ensure new products are brought to market on time with exceptional quality, performance and cost. Items critical to the success of the PMI Program Manager include: * Support Engineering prototype A and B build phases (operations support and coordination, manage validation trial requests, ramp planning) * Directly manage C and D build phases (core team leadership, program schedule, build plan, materials coordination, build execution, allocation management, issue tracking) * Knowing what and who your resources are and how to effectively utilize them * Understanding how decisions in one area impact other departments and operational goals * Meeting with smaller groups to make sure everyone is making progress against the plan and on specific actions * Ensuring resources are allocated where needed * Tracking details and managing actions to closure Responsibilities * Manage the cross functional team to ensure successful launches of new products into the current manufacturing site * Lead build core team meetings to coordinate all aspects of prototype builds, set build plans and evaluate constraints * Drive material readiness with supply chain and material planners * Provide direction to project engineers for priorities and trial requirements * Perform cost analyses to reduce product cost and manage inventory * Aid in the development and roll-out of NPI structure and processes * Coordinate with process and quality engineers to support new product roll outs Requirements * B.S. in Engineering, M.S or MBA preferred but not required * Min. 4-5 yrs. Experience in mix of engineering and Project Management fields * Experience in Production/Manufacturing environment * Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written * Can communicate with technical and non-technical team members effectively * Ability to work cross-functionally and manage large teams * Works well under pressure and can manage multiple priorities simultaneously * Ability to adapt to changes quickly Tesla Motors Buffalo NY
