Engineering Technician, Optical & Lighting Systems

SUMMARY Documents, builds, tests, troubleshoots, repairs and modifies imaging and illumination systems for new development prototypes. Runs tests, modifies prototype parts and documents results.
Supports prototype and production optical sorters including related items such as test benches, alignment jigs, measurement tools, etc. Helps develop & document standard products and directly supports manufacturing and service as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Adapt designs or previously developed solutions to new problems.
Use computer-assisted software to modify existing and / or develop new designs.
Operate line scan cameras, laser scanners and related image acquisition subsystems, hyperspectral imagers, spectrometers, radiometers, oscilloscopes, digital volt/ohm meters and other lab instruments including related control and data acquisition & processing software.
Align & optimize cameras and laser scanners in-situ and on optical alignment and test benches.
Document work to meet requirements of LumenFlow's Product Development Process.
Analyze product or equipment electronic specifications and performance requirements.
Compile and analyzes test data to determine effect of electronic machine design on various factors such as machine performance and reliability.
Implement solutions as designs under supervision of a team leader or senior technical staff member.
Provide design documentation including summarized and detailed reports of experimentation testing, analysis, prototype and commercial development activities.
Provide written descriptions of designs for technical manuals.
Participate in technical product development meetings and / or ideation sessions with other technical groups.
Navigate & use LumenFlow's ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software system 'IQMS' to find part and Work Order details, prepare Purchase Requisitions, Payment Requests and create, submit, edit or respond to CAR's (Corrective Action Requests), NCR's (Non-Conformance Reports) and ECO's (Engineering Change Orders).
Support instrument calibration spreadsheet, collection & return of instruments, and coordination with Quality and Manufacturing.
Occasional travel locally and nationally for customer support and service in collecting data to evaluate field problems.
There are no direct supervisory responsibilities associated with this job.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university in a technical discipline plus a minimum of 3 months relevant experience. Experience and/or education in optical and digital imaging is desirable.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to draw and interpret graphical data.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in electrical and electronic schematic form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or scheduled form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid US driver's license, valid US Passport
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES General knowledge of digital imaging, image analysis and image processing is required. Some knowledge of color spaces and radiometric vs. photometric light measurement is required.
Skilled use of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint for data analysis, reporting and presentation is required. Use of Outlook for common written communication and scheduling is required. Ability to navigate, search for and retrieve information from a relational database including Access or AX is required.
Experience with design / drawing tools like Visio, AutoCAD, SolidWorks LightTools or Zemax is desired.
