Summary:

Northern Technologies, LLC (NTI); a rapidly growing geotechnical consulting and materials testing firm, has a position for a full-time Engineering Technician to join our team in Minot, ND starting immediately. The Engineering Technician is responsible for the testing of construction materials (soil, concrete, bituminous, aggregates, mortar and masonry units, etc.) as contracted for by our clients.

The successful candidate for this position will be encouraged to expand their skill sets and certifications through company training and mentoring and currently possess the following qualifications and experience:

Essential Duties:

This list of duties, skills and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Performs field and laboratory tests on soil, concrete, bituminous, aggregates, mortar and masonry units, structural steel welding and bolted connections as well as other construction materials.

  • Maintains orderly and timely processing of project paperwork including completion of field or laboratory test or observation sheets, and log book and other necessary requirements for nuclear gauge operation.

  • Communicates all job observations, passing or failing results of testing, and any other information to project manager.

  • Maintains log of laboratory inventory and calibration work

  • Seeks assistance as needed, and follows guidelines and procedures for testing to ensure all results are accurate.

  • Keeps vehicles clean, maintained, and organized. Keeps vehicle and gas logs up-to-date.

  • Represents NTI in a professional manner through communication and appearance on jobsites.

Qualifications:

Experience:

Interest in materials testing; some hands on experience preferred.

Language Skills:

Ability to read technical procedures, analyze, and interpret gauges.

Ability to write and log results of testing processes.

Excellent verbal communications skills for working with contractors and internal staff.

Mathematical Skills:

Strong aptitude for mathematics a plus.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, diagrammed, or scheduled form.

Other Qualifications:

Possess a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record; basic computer knowledge to work on new programs, log results and enter time and job data.

Education, Licensure, and Certifications

Required: High School Diploma or equivalent; ACI Level I Field Technician or must obtain within first 6 months of hire; Nuclear Density Gauge Certification or ability to obtain within first 6 months of hire.

Preferred: Associates degree in Civil Engineering; ICC Certifications; DOT Certifications

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls. The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The noise level can be moderate to loud on jobsites and moderate when working in the lab. At least 50% of the work will be performed outdoors where individual will be subject to extreme heat and cold, snow and rain.

LOCATION: Rapid City, SD PRIMARY FUNCTION: Manage corporate network hardware, software, wide area/local area networks, and voice communications. This position is responsible for managing change management processes, monitoring corporate network, network performance and personnel supporting the environment. Manage five year forward looking O&M and Capital budgets for all network investments. Perform capacity planning and set strategic direction around various network technologies with security mindset. Refresh all network infrastructures on appropriate replacement schedule to maintain a solid and reliable network foundation. Responsible for leading large projects and project teams while meeting project timelines and budget set forth by project. Engage internal resources and external business partners as required. Maintain exemplary customer service supporting internal and external customers and ensuring issues are resolved in a timely manner. Ensure all network duties are performed in accordance with company's published policies and procedures. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Director, IT Infrastructure & Operations ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: * Responsible for setting strategy, direction, coordination and planning for the company's network architecture. * Contributes to overall strategic vision of the organization and integrates a broad range of ideas regarding IT network architecture. * Recognized across the organization for IT network expertise and sought as a resource for resolution of unique or complex IT architecture problems. * Undertakes the most complex network architecture projects involving multiple disciplines and may impact multiple business units. * Manages all equipment installed across the enterprise and ensures cabling meets specifications. * Assist in planning for network hardware and bandwidth resource availability. * Work with business units to develop communications technology solutions that resolve complex business problems. * Delegates work assignments, sets expectations and monitors delegated activities. * Ensure network performance monitoring is in place to proactively identify problems early. * Ensure network security is in compliance with NERC/CIP and other regulations. * Ensure all network equipment is patched current to reduce risk. * Provides reports to superiors regarding effectiveness of network infrastructure and makes recommendations for the adoption of new technology and procedures. * Assigns work to subordinates, monitors performance, and conducts performance appraisals. * Interviews and makes recommendations for additional staff. * Ensure there is appropriate bench strength across network group to ensure proper support. * Develop and maintain project management expertise to support the organization in effective and efficient implementation of assigned network infrastructure projects to support strategic objectives. * Develop and maintain strong, effective partnerships across company, particularly within Information Technology, Finance, Supply Chain, Human Resources and Operations. * Provide 5 year O&M and capital budget forecast and manage the budget to meet plan. * Perform quarterly audit review and approval of IT Infrastructure processes and procedures. * Complete additional duties as assigned.
