This Engineering Technician III located in the Division 6 District 2 office is an advanced level position that will be responsible for the processing and review of driveway permits, site plans, utility and non-utility encroachment agreements, subdivision plans, and road additions/abandonments. This position will perform on-site inspections for compliance to NCDOT specifications for driveway permits, encroachments and subdivisions.
Employee will conduct pre-construction meetings with requesting parties. This position will perform field inspections and prepare deficiency letters as it relates to road additions, driveway permits and encroachments. This position will meet with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and others to discuss adherence to policies and procedures, answer questions, and address complaints from the general public by telephone, written correspondence, or in person.
This position will assist the Division as needed during emergencies and inclement weather. This position will also assist the District Engineer with other tasks as assigned.
Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:
Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
Customer service experience related to resolving problems that involve explaining complicated engineering concepts to various customer groups.
Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
Computer experience including office software and drafting software.
Additional Expectations:
Must possess communication skills to provide telephone and on-site technical assistance to on-site inspectors, developers, contractors, engineers, and general public. Ability to review and interpret construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures.
Ability to communicate well with the general public and co-workers. Possess knowledge of mathematical functions including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry is required. Knowledge in the use of surveying equipment, basic office equipment, drafting equipment, and computer programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Micro Station). Safety toe shoes will be required.
Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.

Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
