The Department of Public Works is recruiting for Engineering Technicians III who perform technical engineering duties requiring a good understanding of technical engineering practices and procedures. Duties include preparing final maps, construction drawings, and preliminary plans oh highway and flood control facilities; draft plans and profiles, cross sections, topographic features; researching property ownership; measuring distances and bearings; setting up and operating survey instruments; sampling of soil and construction material at job sites and mix plants; conducting studies and making recommendations. Other duties may include measuring landfill gas perimeter probes; operating, monitoring, and maintaining landfill gas systems; inspecting inactive landfill sites for regulatory compliance.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Background: Incumbent must successfully complete a background check prior to appointment.

Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required.

Incumbents must make provision for transportation. At the time of hire, a valid California class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced by the individual providing the transportation and maintained during the course of employment.

Minimum Requirements:

Experience: Two (2) years of technical civil engineering experience which includes the application of civil engineering formulas, theories, and practices to the construction, design, and inspection of public works projects.

And

Education: Fifteen (15) semester (23 quarter) units of completed college coursework in civil engineering, engineering construction technology, or a closely related field.

College transcripts MUST be included with your application if a degree has not been conferred. Applicants with college coursework completed outside the United States MUST also submit an equivalency report from an accredited credential evaluation service with the application.

Substitutions:

Option 1: An additional fifteen (15) semester (23 quarter) units of completed college coursework as described above OR successful completion of the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.

Option 2: One (1) year of additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education.

Note: Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.

Desired Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have experience drafting engineering designs using CAD or GIS software and have some knowledge of civil and structural engineering.

VIEW JOBS 1/14/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-04-14T00:00 The Job Benefits Supplemental Questions The Scientific Investigations Division of San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is recruiting for Sheriff's Crime Scene Specialists III who is responsible for collecting, documenting, and preserving physical evidence at crime scenes; including fingerprinting, photography, crime scene reconstruction, gunshot trajectories, and bloodstain pattern analysis. This is the fully qualified working level of the series, under general supervision, incumbents respond to homicides, other major crimes, and collect all forms of evidence from crime scenes. For more detailed information, please refer to the Sheriff's Crime Scene Specialist III job description. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT 1) Background: Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an extensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony. 2) Shift: Applicants must be available for all shifts; incumbents will be required to work rotating shifts, or be on call for work, on weekends, holidays, and evenings, including mandatory overtime; refusal of assigned shift may result in removal from the list or termination. 3) License: A valid California Class C driver license is required at time of appointment. Employees in this class may be required to use personal vehicles and show proof of automobile liability insurance. 4) Availability: This department is a "24/7" operation, and the incumbent can expect to work rotating, night, weekend, day, and graveyard shifts, as well as holidays and weekends. Sheriff's Crime Scene Specialists who are on call must be able to report for duty within one hour after being paged. 5) Physical: Incumbents must be able to climb up and down embankments, and hike short distances over rough terrain, while carrying up to 40 lbs; work in inclement (hot/cold/wet) weather; and be able to work while wearing an Air Purifying Respirator (APR). 6) Medical: Incumbents must pass a yearly medical exam to verify the ability to wear an APR. 7)Training: Under general supervision, incumbents respond to homicides, other major crimes, and collect all forms of evidence from crime scenes. Minimum Requirements:Option A - Experience: Three (3) years of full-time work experience with a law enforcement organization responding to homicides and other major crimes; collecting all forms of evidence from crime scenes; performing duties including fingerprinting, photography, crime scene reconstruction, gunshot trajectories, bloodstain pattern interpretation and other technical duties as a field specialist in either crime scene photography or evidence collection and documentation. * - OR -- Experience: Two (2) of full-time work experience as a Sheriff's Crime Scene Specialist II with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, including qualification by the San Bernardino County Scientific Investigations Division in Advanced Crime Scene, Gunshot Trajectory Reconstruction, and Bloodstain Pattern Analysis * - AND – Option B - Education: Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of completed college coursework in criminalistics, forensic or police science, or a related physical or natural science, which includes at least 9 semester (12 quarter) units from courses in crime scene investigation, evidence collection, and college-level mathematics (trigonometry is preferred). A list of coursework must be submitted with the application.
