Description of Work

Salary Range: $36,677 - $62,092

Positions 60016916 and 60016931 will be filled from this posting.

Serves as a chief project inspector for smaller roadway and structure projects or as lead inspector on more complex projects, conducting independent inspections on various construction operations using plans, contracts, standards, specifications, etc., and variety of material testing devices to ensure compliance with project requirements. Maintains appropriate project records/reports. Performs necessary surveying and inspection calculations. Supervises and trains lower level employees. Also requires familiarization with reading plans, contract, specifications and applicable standards. Performs a variety of office assignments such as checking pay records, haul tickets, force account, contractor's payroll, materials received, and estimates with use of calculator and computer.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

  • Experience with contract administration

  • Knowledge in understanding contracts, plans, standards and specifications

  • Experience in performing inspection, sampling, and testing of materials (concrete, asphalt density) to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications

  • Working knowledge of computer equipment, (I-pads, desktop), software (HiCams and Share Point) and mathematical functions

  • Experience in maintaining neat, legible and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad data entry

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
