The purpose of this job is to provide advanced engineering services and support. Surveys and researches site conditions for infrastructure, utilities, and other related city construction projects. Performs drafting work in AutoCAD, recommends drafting standards, and conducts fieldwork. Maintains spatial data in GIS and completes plan reviews. Manages the sewer hydraulic model. Assesses fees as necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description
  • Prepares and reviews drawings, diagrams, 3D renderings, and construction plans for engineering project

  • Maintains AutoCAD drafting standards, base drawing, and standard details.

  • Reviews plans for drawing standard conformance

  • Conducts field work, including surveys and field studies.

  • Utilizes ARC Map and ARC GIS to create and maintain accurate maps, manage map data, and produce high-quality displays and diagrams. Ensures the integrity and accuracy of GIS databases. Significant coordination with other departments, divisions and utilities to ensure project requirements are met and respond to inquiries.

  • Compiles statistical data and creates reports.

  • Creates and maintains records.

  • Maintains software and software licenses such as but not limited to: AutoCAD, Granitenet, INFOSWMM, & ICM 360.

  • Develops and maintains detailed hydraulic models for sewer systems using InfoSWMM and ICM 360.

  • Analyzes sewer system performance under various scenarios including wet weather conditions, dry weather flows and system upgrades.

  • Identifies and assesses system deficiencies, and proposes solutions to improve system performance and capacity.

  • Stays current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in sewer modeling and infrastructure engineering.

  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • No supervisory authority. Work does require providing guidance and training to others.

Education and Experience

  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Associate's Degree in construction management, engineering technology or similar field preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of related experience.

Licenses or Certifications

  • Valid driver's license.

Knowledge of:

  • Principles, practices, and methods of civil engineering, including such specialties as land surveying and mapping, hydraulics, hydrology, structures, construction, utility design, and engineering technology.

  • Maps, deeds, plants, plans, codes, regulations and standards.

  • Standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment of building trades.

  • Algebra, geometry, calculus, ad engineering formulas.

Skill in:

  • Communicating verbally and in writing to meet the needs of the audience.

  • Collecting, organizing, and analyzing complex and/or technical data.

  • Utilizing engineering and GIS software.ARC Map, ARC GIS, INFOSWMM, ICM 360 and AutoCAD

  • Utilizing surveying equipment and software.

Hours/Days

Monday through Friday, generally 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, some flexibility with final schedule.
