This is a key position in Whatcom County's Design/Construction Engineering division, responsible for drafting of technical plans for construction bid documents, administration of public works construction contracts for multiple concurrent road and bridge projects, field inspection of projects, and related tasks. The position will be filled at the Engineering Technician I, II, III or IV level, depending on qualifications.

This position closes on 5/12/24, with a first priority review date of May 1, 2024.

Hiring rate depends on qualifications.  This position receives annual pay increases to the next step in the associated salary range (apx. 3.8%) subject to satisfactory performance, in addition to any negotiated Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA).

Engineering Technician I:

Requires an Associate's degree (or higher) in Engineering Technology, or a related field.

Engineering Technician II:

Requires an Associate's degree (or higher) in Engineering Technology, or a related field AND two years of progressively responsible experience at an Engineering Technician I level.

Engineering Technician III:

Requires an Associate's degree (or higher) in Engineering Technology, or a related field AND four years of progressively responsible engineering technology experience, INCLUDING two years at an Engineering Technician II level.

Engineering Technician IV:

Requires a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field AND five years of related, progressively responsible engineering technology experience INCLUDING three years working at an Engineering Technician III level OR Associates degree in Engineering Technology or a related field AND seven years of related progressively responsible engineering technology experience INCLUDING three years working at an Engineering Technician III level.

Years of experience required varies, depending on technician level and educational background.

Must have Background Check and Driving Record that meets County Standards.

Requires valid driver's license at time of hire and throughout employment.

Must be eligible to cross between United States and Canada.
