POSITION SUMMARY:

The Engineering Technician 1 is responsible for executing lab orders that are assigned, in the most safe and efficient manner, following standard procedures and work instructions. In some cases, working with the development engineers to develop new methods for testing and analysis. Overall responsibilities may also include application of Lean / GPS principles, for example 5S, and develop a working knowledge of test equipment and maintenance & calibrations.

Testing lab requests and providing reliable results in a timely manner

Working knowledge of equipment, chemicals and products for productivity and safety,

Providing accurate and repeatable data as it is critical to timely development,

Managing priorities for the variety and complexity of assignments,

Apply expertise in technical/laboratory specialty

Participate in decision making by gathering, organizing and presenting information/data,

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years general and 2 years specific

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Knowledge and understanding of basic laboratory procedures,

  • Working experience with key test equipment,

  • Understanding of working with chemicals and materials, familiar with MSDS

  • Working knowledge & practical experience with MS Office software, particularly MS EXCEL and MS WORD.

  • Math Skills to know basic statistics: Average, Median, Mode, Standard Deviation.

  • Excellent organization skills,

  • Good skills as team member with co-workers, engineers, management.

  • Operate under minimal supervision

EDUCATION:

  • Associates degree in related discipline (Science, Math, Engineering, etc.)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Must be able to work in an office or manufacturing environment, while wearing appropriate PPE.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

There can be moderate noise levels at times in the laboratory. There can be odors from the rubber materials that are produced, processed and vulcanized, as well as from test equipment and media used for aging/testing. The use of cutting tools and moving parts equipment are required. Handling hot specimens with appropriate PPE is typical.
