The Engineering Technician is primarily responsible for the development of design drawings in support of staff engineers. This position is located in San Jose, California.
Prepares construction drawings for water main installation and other water system improvements using AutoCAD from a variety of sources including field surveys or engineering drawings from consultants, title and deed information, project engineer's field notes, existing as-built documents, GIS information and verbal instruction
Performs basic pipe crossing calculations
Performs meter sizing calculations within an established application and guideline
Prepares cost estimate in accordance with CPUC Rules and within an established application and guideline
Communicates closely with engineer and district staff on project progress and missing information.
Communicates closely with master contractor on confirmatory requests
Communicates as needed with Developer's engineer regarding project surveying, design and drawings.
Assists with standard drawings creation and revision
Provides support on utility location research and verification as necessary
Manages multiple projects and priorities including tracking and updating project status
Participates in and supports the Company's Continuous Improvement program and projects
Performs other similar duties as assigned
Associate degree or technical/vocational school certificate in Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CAD), civil engineering, computer science, or related field
Four years of experience using recent versions (within last five years) of AutoCAD or equivalent
Experience with engineering drafting and design
Knowledge of math, geometry, and algebra
Excellent verbal and written communication
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications
Valid California Driver License
Knowledge of water and wastewater systems preferred
Knowledge of legal description, easements and parcel maps preferred.
Knowledge of terminology used in subdivision improvement drawings preferred.
Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D in development of digital terrain modeling and plan and profile preferred
Experience with conducting field topographic/site surveys using a total station preferred
