The Position

Engineering Technician positions perform a broad range of duties involving technical engineering work in support of professional engineers. Duties include but are not limited to drafting, engineering calculations, surveying, materials/soils testing, construction inspection, roadway design, right-of-way engineering, planning, permitting and inspection, water rights appropriation and land acquisition in support of civil or related professional engineering work. Duties require the application of technical engineering skills, methods, and practices in compiling technical data, drafting, computers, computer aided software, operating specialized equipment, and preparing engineering related documents.

Under general direction, incumbents function independently at the advanced journey level performing technical work requiring knowledge of engineering theories, principles, concepts and practices in a specialized area..

This position is located in District II, Carson City. Under direction of the Resident Engineer, incumbent plays a critical role in the development, delivery, and administration of district construction projects.

Responsibilities will include: survey functions; assisting construction crews; drafting plans and specifications; field inspection of projects; material testing; cost estimation; computer aided design drafting; and project coordination. This position may have temporary assignments away from the normal duty station of Carson City. Women and under-represented groups are encouraged to apply. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil, mechanical, chemical or metallurgical engineering, mathematics or closely related field and one year of progressively responsible technical engineering work experience involving the coordination of technical engineering work projects, having technical responsibility over a specialized engineering function or program area, serving as leadworker to technical engineering staff, independently determining work priorities, implementing and/or developing work procedures, techniques, standards and controls; OR Associate's degree from an accredited college, university or technical school with major course work in engineering, engineering technology, math or related field and three years of progressively responsible experience as described above; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and five years of progressively responsible experience as described above; OR two years as an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Requirements Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety.

Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

VIEW JOBS 10/17/2019 12:00:00 AM 2020-01-15T00:00 The Position DMV Services Technicians provide customer services associated with driver's license, vehicle, and business occupational licensing programs including licensing drivers; issuing identification cards; registering and titling vehicles; issuing occupational business licenses; and processing reinstatements. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. This position is located in the Carson City DMV, within our Central Services Division. Under limited supervision, the incumbent is the front line supervisor for the assigned section. The ideal incumbent possesses a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work; participates in the development of specific program goals; directs day to day activities of the team; prioritizes assignments; schedules team members; evaluates work product to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; performs general supervisory duties to include evaluations, discipline, and approving leave time; ensures customer service and quality standards are met, including confidentiality and security. Additional duties may include the research, processing, and issuance of driver's vehicle titles/ registration; also balancing and maintaining office funds. Must be able to read and interpret NRS, NAC, Federal Regulations, & policy and procedures to effect the appropriate action, communicate and disseminate accurate & appropriate information to the customer. The incumbent must display professionalism and demonstrate good customer service while dealing with public. MANDATORY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (only if not a current DMV Technician): a typing certificate (issued within the last 30 days) must accompany your application and must verify your NET typing speed of at least 30 words per minute. No online typing tests will be accepted. This typing certificate may be obtained through any Job Connect office at no charge. DMV shall not knowingly employ a person if they have been convicted of any of the felonies listed under the Real ID regulation, which includes Espionage, Sedition, Treason, Terrorism, Transportation Security Incident, Improper Transportation of a Hazardous Material, Unlawful Possession of Explosives, Murder, Making any Threat Concerning a Lethal Device, Racketeering. Additional Real ID criteria provides that the DMV shall not employ a person if they have been convicted of a felony within 7 years of their application or if an applicant was released from incarceration for one of these crimes within five years of their application including Unlawful Firearm Violations, Extortion, Fraud, Bribery, Smuggling, Immigration Violations, Distribution of Controlled Substances, Arson, Kidnapping, Rape or Sexual Abuse, Assault With Intent to Kill, Robbery, or Fraudulent Seaport Entry. Under the authority of NRS 239B.010.1(b), the DMV also utilizes NRS 205 as criteria to obtain an FBI fingerprint clearance on prospective employees. Any convictions pursuant to NRS 205 will disqualify any employee or vendor employee from obtaining access to the DMV Computer System. Special Notes Applicants must meet the minimum typing speed of 30 words per minute at the time of recruitment. The Department of Motor Vehicles is required to comply with 49 CFR 1572.103 which provides that an agency involved in the issuance of Real ID Driver's Licenses shall not knowingly employ a person if they have been convicted of any of the felonies listed under this regulation.
