As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as an Engineering Technician 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).  Please refer to the "Job Specifications" tab located at the top of the LA Careers "Current Job Opportunities" page of the Civil Service website for specific information on salary ranges, minimum qualification and job concepts for each level.



$2.00/hour Shift Differential Pay for all hours worked after 6:00 p.m. and before 6:00 a.m.

Engineering Technician 1 - Starting salary is $12.22/hourly with an additional $1.00 premium pay for every hour worked.

Engineering Technician 2 - Starting salary is $14.00/hourly with an additional $1.00 premium pay for every hour worked.

Engineering Technician 3 - Starting salary is $16.03/hourly.

Engineering Technician 4 - Starting salary is $18.35/hourly.

No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.

Possession of a high school diploma or GED.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.

Function of Work:

To participate in on-the-job training to learn basic, routine sub professional engineering tasks, as defined in the Examples Of Work Section.

Level of Work:

Entry.

Supervision Received:

Close from an Engineering Technician 5, 6, 7, a professional engineer or manager of the agency served.

Supervision Exercised:

None.

Location of Work:

May be used by all state agencies.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from higher level engineering technicians by the focus on learning basic methods, techniques and procedures and by the presence of detailed instructions and close supervision.70%        Utilizes a thorough knowledge and understanding of Department procedures, policies, standards, and specifications in the inspection of construction work and/or in the completion and/or processing of construction-related documents such as field diaries, partial estimates and final estimates.  Enters construction project data into the appropriate computer database or application (MATT, Site Manager, Content Manager etc.).  Applies DOTD engineering policies and procedures to normal work situations in the Project Engineer's Office and/or at construction sites.   Serves as primary construction inspector in area(s) of specialization or certification.

Determines material sampling requirements for area(s) of expertise. Verifies elevations/alignments for surveys. Reviews haul tickets to determine if loads comply with authorized/approved load quantities/volumes. Prepares work reports, monthly estimate quantities, and mathematical calculations necessary to complete paperwork.  May serve as the primary asphalt plant technician.
20%        Completes required training classes and receives on-the-job training in performing construction inspection and completing necessary documentation and/or paperwork.  May also provide on-the-job training or assistance to newer or lower level technicians and/or consultant personnel.
5%           May perform additional duties as necessary to ensure the efficient operations of the Project Engineer's office.
5%           May be required to perform other duties as necessary including but not limited to Emergency/Disaster support activities.
