The Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Division of Whatcom County Public Works is hiring for the newly created position of Maintenance Engineering Technician and is looking for a technical professional experienced in the road maintenance industry. This team member will closely coordinate with 7 crew leaders and 71 coworkers to solve a variety of road maintenance problems and act as a technical resource to provide creative solutions along with AutoCAD exhibits for small scale infrastructure repair projects throughout the County.
The closely connected M&O leadership team manages an approximate $19 million budget, completes numerous individual maintenance projects annually and will be looking to this new team member for passionate technical support of the crew leaders in delivering these projects.
The ideal candidate will be experienced with construction inspection and layout of road repair projects and utilizing construction stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs). They will have knowledge of how a roadway system functions and be skilled using AutoCAD to create clear exhibits for field crews to implement collaborative repair strategies.

Engineering Technician IV - Range 180.0
Engineering Technician III:
Requires an Associate's degree (or higher) in Engineering Technology, or a related field AND four years of progressively responsible engineering technology experience, INCLUDING two years at an Engineering Technician II level.
Engineering Technician IV:
Requires Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field AND five years of related, progressively responsible engineering technology experience INCLUDING three years working at an Engineering Technician III level OR Associate's Degree in Engineering Technology or a related field AND seven years of related progressively responsible engineering technology experience INCLUDING three years working at an Engineering Technician III level.
Years of experience required varies, depending on technician level and educational background.
Must have Background Check and Driving Record that meets County Standards.
Requires valid driver's license at time of hire and throughout employment.
Must be eligible to cross between United States and Canada.
