Our Engineering Leadership Opportunity

Samasource is looking for an experienced senior engineering leader with a background in distributed web applications development or machine learning to head up our technology team and be a partner in leading the organization.

We're committed to hiring a high-caliber, hands-on, entrepreneurial-thinker to strategically grow our Engineering Team by 150%+! We're looking for someone who is:

Our annotation platform is built in Ruby on Rails, Javascript and Angular. We have an expanding data warehouse for business analytics, and our client data management process accommodates a rich menu of transformations, conversions, and preprocessing pipelines. Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for Samasource's engineering growth roadmap and vision across our web properties and backend work distribution platform

  • Works with management to set engineering priorities and resource needs

  • Collaborates closely with Product Management to set short-term development goals and pursue long-term engineering innovation

  • Aggressively builds and grows a team of talented engineers to achieve our company's vision

  • Strongly communicates engineering goals, priorities and execution plans to the Samasource board, management, and staff

  • Writes elegant, high-quality, unit-tested code (Be prepared to send in samples of work that you're proud of.)

Requirements

Professional Attributes

  • 10+ years of engineering experience with at least 3 years of experience in a leadership role

  • Recent experience successfully translating company vision into concrete, measurable engineering deliverables and leading a team of at least 10 direct-report software engineers

  • Extensive background in delivering high-availability web applications on cloud-hosted infrastructure

  • Academic or professional experience building and improving machine learning algorithms and familiarity with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, or Keras

  • Successfully builds and manages remote teams of engineers across time zones

  • Python and Ruby app development and data processing experience

  • Strong relational database experience including performance tuning

  • Strong understanding of Javascript/Typescript and a client-side framework such as Angular

  • Comfortable in a Linux environment and with devops on Heroku and AWS

  • Experience with data processing pipelines such as Spark, EMR, and BI tools

  • Strong working knowledge of unit testing frameworks

  • Lightweight approach to project management/planning (paint the picture, capture the granular details in JIRA)

  • Preference for agile development methodology
