Squarespace is looking for experienced data engineering team leaders. As a member of our Data Engineering team, you'll sit with a cross-functional team of software engineers, data scientists and business analysts, working closely with your team to turn complex sources into understandable data. The data sets, pipelines and tools that you build will be involved in pivotal, company-level decisions for years to come. Not only that, but you'll work on a team where constant learning and team-wide knowledge sharing is a core part of our culture. You will report to our Engineering Manager, Data Engineering in our NYC Headquarters.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and maintain data processing services

  • Write, test, and review primarily microbatch or streaming ETL

  • Continuous improvement of our system, tests, and data quality indicators

  • Influence our technical decisions

  • Keep yourself informed and up-to-date with technologies

  • Encourage the technical growth of your teammates

  • Lead other engineers and collaborate with designers to provide strong customer-focused experiences

  • Have regular 1-1 with team members, and take an active role in code reviews for junior members

  • Mentor junior team members

QUALIFICATIONS

  • You love working directly with the people whose problems you're solving

  • You are deeply skilled at data modeling, storage, security, and retrieval

  • You're motivated and driven. You naturally take responsibility for a project and ask for help when needed

  • You enjoy working with dynamic programming languages, relational databases, and distributed systems. Our platform is ever-evolving, but currently is a combination of Python, Java, Postgres, Kubernetes, Spark, Presto, Kafka, and Mongo

  • You gain a deep understanding of the products and tools you work with

  • You check your work and stand behind what you've built

  • Experience managing a team of 3-5 engineers

  • 5+ years of industry experience

Responsibilities: * Provide leadership across the engineering community in Foursquare to ensure solutions are built in alignment with our principles and standards. * Ensure that all relevant project teams follow a common set of principles and patterns * Act as an evangelist for eng teams and works with teams in Foursquare to keep them apprised of future plans. * Determine OKRs, project planning and resource requirements to accomplish projects and support customers. * Oversee the development, implementation and execution of multiple projects ensuring scope and schedule are established for projects; oversee operating plan and resource allocation for the department, including prioritization and staff deployment; act based on changes in priorities. * Formulate and execute process and organizational improvement direction and programs which enhance overall effectiveness; proactively seek ways to improve human resource and other management processes. * Weigh in on key technical and managerial decisions for the team.
