Summary

This positionreports to the Senior Director of Nutrition Device R&D. Baxter provides one of the broadest Parenteral Nutritionportfolios globally, which includes premix IV solutions, vitamins and lipids,as well as pharmacy workflow management, labeling, compounding technology andenteral nutrition syringes and accessories.

The Engineering Specialist will manage the engineering team in charge ofdevice management of the Clinical Nutrition Global Business Unit's automatedand manual compounding platform. Thisposition will coach and drive the technical team.

Essential Duties and

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and integration of projectstrategies which may cross several disciplines; evaluate alternatives against agreedcriteria.

  • With team, select strategies and appropriate levelof risk and understanding full range of implications across the system.

  • Develop and implement new product/processesrequiring development of technologies.

Plan and schedule project implementation.

  • Responsible for defining scope of work for projectteam.

  • Manage, identify, hire, develop and recognizetechnical staff.

  • Create and maintain employee and organizationaldevelopment; as well as HR plans, which meet business needs.

  • Apply specialized knowledge in a creative way to abroad range of difficult problems.

  • Review and analyze proposals to determine ifbenefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures.

  • Approve and submit proposals to Sr. Management.

  • Preparation of project cost estimates up tomulti-million-dollar range.

  • Manages and forecasts all project expenditures andcost tracking.

  • Policy setting and defining procedures for the staffin accomplishing and documenting projects.

  • Assist in the development of overall engineeringdepartment policy.

  • Approve protocols and support documentation(engineering change requests, system change forms, etc.) in order to secureproject release.

  • Develop staff members to assume technical approverrole.

Develop strategic resource plan from multiple global locations and engineeringresources.

Qualifications

  • Technical Lead on the new Platform Development Project.

  • Excellent technical skills.

  • Team player.

  • Must possess knowledge of related disciplines.

  • Knowledge of GMPs, FDA guidelines, purchasing practices and process validation.

  • Must be self-motivated, have good interpersonal skills, capable of analyzing and solving complex problems through innovative thought and experience.

  • Ability to manage multiple cross-functional teams simultaneously.

  • Ability to design and influence outside of immediate scope of responsibility.

  • Maintain industry contacts and be involved in industry interest groups.

  • Proven track record of management/leadership effectiveness.

  • BS in relevant engineering discipline, MS preferred.

  • 10-12 years of relevant experience.

This position will lead a team of 3-4 engineers, and provide project management and services for disposables, electro-mechanical and IV nutrition product support development. Manage successful completion of projects within boundaries of quality, time and budget. Based on significant technical expertise, reviews and approves complex design concepts. Provides technical direction to staff. Recognized as expert by peers and other personnel within the business. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Manage a variety of complex issues in associated projects, plans and schedules project implementation. * Responsible for defining scope of work for project team. * Manage, identify, hire, develop and recognize technical staff; the team may include senior level engineers and technicians. * Provide technical direction. * Design new or improved products or process systems. * Review and approve technical feasibility of complex design concepts and analysis of technologies that incorporate own area of expertise as well as multiple disciplines. * Review and analyze proposals to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures. * Recommend proposal to management for consideration and allocation of funds. * Responsible for preparation of project cost estimates up to multi-million dollar range. * Monitors all project expenditures and cost tracking. * Responsible for policy setting and defining procedures for the staff in accomplishing and documenting projects. * Provides input on overall engineering department policy. * Approve protocols and support documentation (engineering change requests, system change forms, etc.) in order to secure project release. * Proactively and regularly communicate with regions and plants (directly or through marketing) to update development progress and maintain region support. Qualifications * Team leadership experience. * Technical expertise in electro-mechanical systems and/or disposables. * Expertise or experience interfacing with a manufacturing partner or a supplier. * Must be well versed in engineering disciplines (e.g. fluid flow, thermodynamics, heat transfer, static's and dynamics, engineering materials). * Knowledge of GMPs, FDA guidelines, purchasing practices and process validation. * Must be self-motivated, have good interpersonal skills, capable of analyzing and solving complex problems through innovative thought and experience. * Ability to design and implement in own area of expertise. * Be involved in at least one industry interest group. * Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering discipline. * 8-10 years of relevant experience.
