Under the direction of the Inspection Section Head and Regional Project Manager, the Construction Inspector (CI) is responsible for the inspection of assigned statewide capital construction and repair projects to ensure compliance with the plans, specifications, and applicable codes. Responsible for reviewing plans and specifications for errors and potential problem areas prior to posting for bid. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

One year experience as a Texas Parks & Wildlife Engineering Specialist III OR;
Ten years of progressively responsible experience;
Five years experience as a Superintendent or Inspector of multi-disciplinary projects;
NOTE: Experience may have occurred concurrently.
If driving is required, applicant must possess a valid State of Texas Class "C" driver's license;
Must possess one of the following: State of Texas Master Electrician license, State of Texas Master Plumber license, State of Texas Master HVAC license, International Code Council (ICC) Professional Inspector Certifications in any of the following areas: Commercial or Residential Building Inspector, Commercial or Residential Electrical Inspector, Commercial or Residential Plumbing Inspector, Commercial or Residential Mechanical Inspector.
NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required licenses.

Knowledge of construction techniques and materials;
Knowledge of construction safety laws and requirements;
Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations relevant to construction practices;
Knowledge of International Building Codes, International Plumbing Code, International Mechanical Code, International Fire Code, International Energy Code, and National Electrical Code;
Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, plumbing and water/wastewater systems;
Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook;
Skill in effective verbal and written communication;
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts;
Skill in planning assigning and/or supervising the work of others;
Skill in making independent, sound and timely decisions;
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications;
Ability to anticipate potential problem areas In order to minimize the impact to construction schedules and/or to minimize additional cost to the Department;
Ability to train less tenured Engineering Specialists;
Ability to provide guidance and technical consultation to less tenured Engineering Specialists;
Ability to apply engineering concepts to assigned projects;
Ability to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;
Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.
Required to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday;
Required to work overtime as necessary;
Required to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;
Required to operate a State vehicle;
Required to travel 65% with possible overnight stays;
Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
