The Engineering Specialist II applies technical principles and concepts in publishing documentation that provides all Maintenance & Engineering (M&E;) personnel with necessary information and instructions to perform their duties and responsibilities with a high degree of safety.
Scope & Complexity
This individual contributor role leads the development of maintenance procedures, work documents, and diagrams to support maintenance in meeting the safe and economical maintenance and operations standards of the aircraft for Alaska Airlines (AS).
Reviews, revises, and publishes documentation that provides all Maintenance & Engineering (M&E;) personnel with necessary information and instructions.
Publishes documentation that adheres to applicable Code of Federal Regulations (CFR)s, Department of Defense (DoD) standards, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) Laws and Regulations, International Air Transport Association (IATA) Regulations, Air Transport Association (ATA) Specifications.
Leads the preparation of procedures for processing technical data through the various stages of development and publication.
Provides subject matter expertise on program requirements and procedures based on Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines for airworthiness and compliance.
Leads the coordination and communication with FAA as necessary and facilitates resolution of audit findings for the department.
Maintains collegial relationships with personnel of other airlines for the exchange of information and experience in matters of mutual interest.
Attends training classes, workshops, and seminars to stay abreast of current developments in the airline industry and related fields.
Maintains compliance with Safety Management System (SMS) and Alaska safety policies and procedures, as well as federal regulations, by reporting any safety hazard or potential hazard.
Leads by example by including SMS principles in daily work habits and remaining current on SMS training requirements.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Job-Specific Skills & Education
A minimum of 5 years of technical writing, publication, or other relevant experience.
Excellent communication (e.g., verbal, written, and listening), presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise documentation.
Ability to confidently lead weekly meetings which include members from the FAA and company managers or directors.
Strong analytical and complex problem-solving ability, particularly in identifying issues and trends.
Ability to meet assigned project deadlines with self-directed decision making confidence.
Detailed oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum age of 18.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
