Engineering Specialist I Vacancy (PD# 37010203)
The Permitting and Waste Cleanup Program (Permitting) in the Southwest District Office is accepting applications for an Engineering Specialist I position. Permitting staff review and evaluate permit applications, completion of construction clearance requests, and/or waste cleanup documents for conformance to Federal and State of Florida rules and regulations.
This position will be working in the Water Facilities Program which includes Domestic Wastewater, Industrial Wastewater and Drinking water.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform site inspections, as necessary, in support of reviews and evaluations.
Produce requests for additional information, and permits/documents that are technically correct, clear, understandable, and consistent with prescribed rules and Department guidance and procedures.
Reviews and makes recommendations on reports, scientific, technical or legal documents.
Ensure that the data entry corresponding to all assigned projects is entered into the department's databases and Oculus timely and appropriately, consistent with standard operating procedures.
Provide regulatory assistance, such as outreach, permitting determinations and exemptions, to permittee and/or company representatives, along with other FDEP programs.
Attends and participates in cross-training activities.
Other duties as assigned.

Ability to understand and apply applicable regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental programs.
Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to evaluate, analyze and interpret scientific and technical data.
Ability to work independently.
Knowledge of the terminology, principles and analytical techniques of the physical or natural sciences.
Ability to determine work priorities and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited university with a major in engineering, environmental science or one of the natural sciences.
Valid driver's license.
