The Town of Sharon is accepting applications for the full-time (40 hours/week; M-W 7:00-4:30; Th 7:00-5:00; F 7:00-12:00) position of Engineering/Septic Specialist. The successful candidate will perform professional and technical work in performing inspections and surveying activities in conjunction with municipal land use and engineering projects.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assists the Town Engineer in planning, designing and preparing bid packages and specifications for public works projects and analyzing design proposals and preparing cost estimates.
Reviews subdivisions for compliance with Planning Board rules and regulations; reviews both preliminary and definitive submissions.
Assists the Town Engineer for in-house projects; prepares preliminary estimates for upcoming projects; prepares construction documents/specifications for in-house projects; performs field surveys and lays out control points.
Inspects work by private contractors and major construction and reconstruction work being performed by Public Works employees for compliance with codes and bylaws of the Town; recommends corrective course of action to remedy non-compliance. In consultation with the Town Engineer, reviews and comments on all work proposed by consultants; prepares and approves all payments to consultants.
Assists public with various questions on zoning, plot plans, and subdivision plans.
Performs field inspections and follow-up on septic system construction.
Reviews septic design for compliance with Board of Health rules and regulations. Responds to complaints regarding septic systems and investigates; takes corrective actions as necessary.
Provides residents advice on all phases of construction relative to septic systems; answers questions from residents and contractors/builders relative to Title V and state environmental code.
Serves as a technical resource to the Board of Health and other town boards and committees.
Attendance at evening meetings required.
Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science or a related field required. Must obtain septic inspector and soil evaluator license within six (6) months of hire. GIS experience preferred.Starting Salary: $69,977; increasing to $71,552 on July 1, 2025, with generous benefits, including health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, flexible spending accounts and retirement plans.
