Serves as an Engineering Research Psychologist team member within the Flight Deck Human Factors Research Laboratory.
Formulates, plans, conducts, and reports on high-priority programs of applied research concerned with measuring the efficiency/performance of individuals, teams, or work units employed by the Federal Aviation Administration while in training or on the job. Develops, plans, and accomplishes research of an applied psychological nature that may cut across several domains including teamwork, cognitive abilities, training, and assessment of unit, team, and individual training or job performance in employment settings.
Performs as a Principal Investigator by: collaborating with managers of FAA strategic business units to identify applied research requirements, objectives, and products for mission-critical occupations; Negotiating priorities, program activities, and funding resources with sponsors, program managers, and division managers to fulfill the research requirements and objectives and deliver research products in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Applies experience and detailed technical knowledge, informs the laboratory manager concerning work group organization, personnel assignments within the program, personnel performance, training needs and recognition. Oversees and/or consults with work groups by providing technical expertise. Provides timely, responsive and persuasive project briefings and presentations at multiple levels within the FAA and to the general scientific community.
Documents study findings in scientific reports to the general scientific community. Contributes to scientific literature by writing articles for refereed journal publications and books. Writes statements of work, interacts with contractors, evaluates contract and grant proposals, participates in contract negotiations, and serves as a Contracting Officer's Technical Representative (COTR). Prepares all experimental, test development, validation, and evaluation methods, and analyses, interpret findings for presentation and prepares reports consistent with professional standards and generally accepted practices in the fields of psychology and human factors.
Work is reviewed periodically during assignments and at completion to ensure timeliness and technical compliance with the requirements of the project or other work activity. Established policies/procedures provide guidance of most assignments, but allow some discretion to select the most appropriate approach.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Degree: Successful completion of a full 4 year course of study from an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree with a major or equivalent in Psychology.
