The Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform team is looking for a Software Engineer to join us. In this role, you will work in an agile environment to help keep our offerings and services competitive within the ever-changing container landscape. You'll need to be interested in working on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, Kubernetes, operating systems, continuous integration (CI), and more.

Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform is Red Hat's premier container initiative which oversees multiple lines of offerings. It includes Red Hat CoreOS, a Linux-based operating system optimized for containers, and Red Hat OpenShift, an orchestration Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) framework based on Kubernetes. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.

What you will do

  • Develop features and bug fixes in Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform within an agile team

  • Ensure that there are test plans for the code you create and that documentation is correct

  • Become responsible for the quality of our offerings, participate in peer code reviews and CI and continuous delivery (CD), and respond to security threats

  • Serve as a point of escalation for customer and internal teams

  • Participate in architectural discussions of system designs, programming interfaces, and interdependencies of the control plane, operators, CI, etc., both in the Kubernetes upstream communities and the Red Hat OpenShift project

  • Collaborate with other engineering teams on integrations

What you will bring

  • Ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment

  • Good understanding of Linux operating system

  • Demonstrated expertise in coding with one or more programming languages like Go, Python, C, C++, Rust, Ruby, etc.

  • Experience building and deploying container-based applications

  • Understanding of how open source and free software communities work

The following are considered a plus:

  • Understanding of Kubernetes architecture and internals

  • Experience with programming in the Go programming language

  • Experience troubleshooting complex issues in distributed systems

  • Experience with development for public cloud services like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Compute Engine (GCE), or Microsoft Azure

  • Ability to present to customers and stakeholders

  • Record of previous contributions to open source projects or being an open source maintainer

Powered by a growing data-analytics discipline - and working in conjunction with municipalities, public agencies and the private sector - we're finding new ways to improve the Bay State's transportation infrastructure.</p><p>MassDOT is responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating transportation policies and projects for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and to efficiently plan, design, construct, and maintain a safe statewide transportation system which effectively meets the transportation needs of the Commonwealth.</p><p>MassDOT's divisions include: Highway, Aeronautics, Registry of Motor Vehicles, Rail &amp; Transit, and Planning &amp; Enterprise Services. There are approximately 3,600 employees across the organization.</p><p>MassDOT's goal is to provide employees with greater flexibility in when and where they work while continuing to execute MassDOT's Safety and Customer Service Mission. Furthermore, MassDOT will be doing our part to lead by example in reducing congestion and greenhouse gas emissions by minimizing overall workplace commuting travel during peak hours through telework and schedule flexibility.</p><p>These positions, with the exception of field inspection roles may have some degree of remote flexibility once established in the role. The selected candidate will be expected to follow a hybrid work model that consists of both in-office and work from home days, as needed.</p><p>Position Summary</p><p>MassDOT interns have the chance to work with some of the most highly respected engineers and specialists in the state. Duties include going on site visits, working on exciting and significant projects, and delivering quality work that has a positive and lasting influence on transportation in the Commonwealth. The internship also provides an opportunity to network with professionals across the state.</p><p>The Engineering Internship Program typically runs 12 weeks from May/June through the end of August. Students must commit to a full-time schedule for the internship period.</p><p>Engineering interns will be assigned throughout the Highway Division and may assist MassDOT engineers in the following areas:</p><ul><li><p>Preparing plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates for highway and bridge construction or maintenance projects.</p></li><li><p>Providing data for the preparation of engineering or environmental reports and studies.</p></li><li><p>Performing calculations such as those related to survey, traffic forecasting, soil capacity, groundwater flow, and quantity of materials.</p></li><li><p>Analyzing changes in scope of work during design and/or construction of projects.</p></li><li><p>Conducting field investigations in order to gather information needed to resolve construction, maintenance, environmental, or traffic problems.</p></li><li><p>Reviewing applications for licenses or permits for the transportation of materials and for the construction of projects.</p></li><li><p>Reviewing construction and service contract payment estimates and/or invoices for materials, equipment, and supplies.</p></li><li><p>Inspecting construction operations, such as drainage, steel placement, paving, or concrete to ensure work is being performed according to specifications.</p></li><li><p>Inspecting maintenance work, such as highway landscaping and repaving operations.</p></li><li><p>Performing related duties such as writing memoranda, letters, or general reports; collecting and correlating engineering data; maintaining records; and operating technical equipment.</p></li><li><p>Geocode- pull, redact, and analyze crash data to assist with evaluation of high crash locations and assist with performance of Road Safety Audits.</p></li><li><p>Environmental compliance and permitting; including groundwater, stormwater, air, noise, wetlands, wildlife, climatology, hazardous materials, and waste.</p></li><li><p>Assists in the biennial inspection of bridges as required.
