Red Hat's Products and Technologies (PnT) Platform Enablement team is looking for a Lab Administrator to join us in Westford, MA. In this role, you will get an opportunity to work with new hardware as part of an established team. Your primary areas of responsibility will include receiving hardware, checking it against established receiving procedures, upgrading firmware in a Red Hat engineering facility, and performing asset management data entries within the inventory system. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining and administering hardware, including configuration changes and upgrading firmware or hardware. Your tasks will include responding to engineering requests via ticketing systems, troubleshooting technical issues, assisting with network triaging, organizing and facilitating capacity planning activities of hardware deliveries, and rack configurations with team members and stakeholders. As a Lab Administrator, you will also need to monitor power and cooling within the lab space. This role is ideal for anyone interested in lab and datacenter operations working with Linux and open source, who has previously performed operating system installs, a CPU or memory upgrade, and flashed their own firmware.

What you will do

  • Receive, check in, and install servers in a typical data center rack environment

  • Troubleshoot technical issues

  • Monitor power and cooling; perform capacity planning of hardware in Labs

  • Respond to engineering requests through the ticketing system

  • Maintain and administer hardware, including configuration changes, firmware upgrades, and hardware replacement

  • Perform other administrative work related to labs

  • Decommission and eWaste hardware

What you will bring

  • Prior experience with computer operations, system administration, or a closely related area

  • Knowledge of or experience with Linux or UNIX

  • Motivated to advance in the IT profession; excellent troubleshooting skills

  • Good work ethic and ability to learn and quickly grasp technical concepts

  • Good interpersonal communication skills; ability to explain and understand simple procedures verbally and in writing

  • Excellent written and verbal customer service skills

  • Detail-oriented and thorough when following procedures, as well as able to follow written and verbal instructions

  • Degree or certificate in computer science or a technology-related field is a plus

  • Prior experience with lab and datacenter operations is a plus
