As a Technical Program Manager for Closures, Exteriors, & Lighting Engineering in Tesla's Vehicle Engineering Group, you will support the engineering team to launch vehicles and subsequent ramps, coordinate engineering changes, and help validate components/systems for all current as well as future Tesla vehicles in all geographic locations where Tesla has a manufacturing facility; work cross-functionally with various teams, from final stages of design development to engineering launch, validation and implementation on the assembly line at volume production.
This Engineering Program Manager should thoroughly understand the business's needs to help develop timelines, workflows, and plans that solve Tesla's aggressive targets. The candidate will be part of the global team that creates and executes world-class vehicles in terms of fit, form, and function.
Commodities of particular importance for this role include sheet metal, mechanisms & electro-mechanism, plastics, lighting, and integrating these commodities into the vehicle. The candidate will utilize your expertise in one or more of these commodities and work with a lean and agile team of the best automotive engineers in the industry.
Define, implement, and drive program requirements, workflows, and plans while managing timelines, cross-functional communications, quality, and risks, uncovering roadblocks, defining critical paths, and any other issues that arise for launching and validating new vehicle sub-systems and components in all Tesla factory locations
Establish a roadmap and drive launch of new systems and components globally by building cross-functional partnerships across the organization
Work with Engineering Managers, Design Engineers, and Vehicle-level Program Managers
Provide insight around potential risks and opportunities, resolve conflict, initiate resolution, and deliver results
Identify and document all program milestones and deliverables and keep program plans up to date at all times, including monitoring schedules, milestones, deliverables, updating percentage completion, etc.
Continuously monitor and measure program processes and activities to identify and communicate potential issues, risks, or problems in a timely fashion and provide corrective action options to drive to resolution
Collaborate with key suppliers and procurement to support overall vehicle launch milestones and prototype/production build events
Experience in product development, validation, launch, and ramp, ideally with multiple delivered products in a medium- to high-volume industry
Proven track record of managing complex hardware product schedules and engineering builds
Strong engineering background, preferably in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
Experience in project planning, tracking schedules, risk mitigation, CATIA Maneuvering, and PLM Management
Demonstrated ability to understand complex development projects and identify critical elements
Detail-oriented with strong record-keeping and organizational skills
Ability to work cross-functionally between engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain
