STV is a multi-discipline engineering/architectural consulting and construction management company. Our award-winning portfolio within the Transportation & Infrastructure Division includes engineering and architectural assignments within the Federal, Educational, Institutional, Justice and Environmental market sectors. Our staff is comprised of structural, rail, transportation, civil engineers and architects, planners, and programmers, amongst others.

From locations throughout the United States, STV has professional, technical and support personnel offer services to a broad and ever-expanding client base. We provide planning, environmental, design, program and construction management and specialty services for the transportation, design-build, institutional, commercial, and industrial markets.

STV has an immediate opening, in our Lawrenceville, NJ office, for an Engineering Operations Senior Manager / Engineering Director with tunneling/ underground structures experience for our Transportation and Infrastructure Division.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Help further the Tunneling & Geotechnical practice in NJ and PA

  • Supervising junior engineers with 8 to 10 years of experience.

  • Performing and supervising design of tunnels, earth retention systems, rock and soil slopes and deep foundations.

  • Design and rock and soil tunnel initial support using numerical and empirical methods.

  • Preparing and serving as EOR for drawings and developing engineering reports.

  • Developing and implementing geotechnical subsurface exploration plan.

  • Preparing geotechnical data reports, geotechnical interpretive reports, geotechnical baseline reports, and geotechnical design reports.

  • Participating in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and schedule performance.

  • Interpreting geology, geotechnical and hydrologic conditions and understand their impact on design and construction.

  • Assisting in preparation of proposals.

  • Actively participate in project teams and pursue opportunities in new areas to grow the business.

  • Be part of go/no-go team reviews and provide technical oversight of proposal preparation.

  • Assist in developing strategic approach projects with heavy underground and geotechnical focus.

  • Serve as project/design manager on geotechnical/tunneling and underground projects.

  • Manage collaboration between various business lines and regions with the geotechnical and tunneling market.

  • Establishing and developing teaming relationships with other consulting firms as necessary.

  • Provide technical oversight, recommend design concepts, solutions, and methodologies.

  • Attract and retain key staff members while effectively mentoring other engineers to ensure the team's professional development.

  • Provide technical guidance and leadership in the development of technical solutions for underground projects.

  • Provide input to the management team on the performance and talent of individuals and on request, provide input on talent identification and talent management strategies.

Required Experience:

  • Project work will include heavy civil underground structures such as cut-and cover and mined tunnels, caverns, shafts, underground structures such substations and treatment facilities throughout the United States and Canada.

  • Experience in rock and soil logging, rock tunnel mapping, and subsurface investigations is preferred.

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in geotechnical engineering with emphasis underground structures.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) required.

  • Prior experience with PLAXIS 2D and 3D and ITASCA software (FLAC 2D and UDEC) is highly preferred but not required.

  • Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related disciplines.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Previous experience in supervising junior staff is preferred.
