Engineering Manager, Platforms

Summary

As the Engineering Manager, Platforms you will lead a team critical to the success of GCM Grosvenor's technical strategy. This crucial team is the foundation for the Engineering organization. The Platforms team is responsible for building and maintaining our core platform technology and data in Microsoft Azure which enables our application teams to deliver business critical functionality efficiently.

As the Engineering Manager, Platforms you will be responsible for driving our platform-wide enterprise capabilities, developing shared libraries used by all engineering, ensuring CI/CD best practices. You will partner with application teams to identify and develop common functionality that benefits all teams. You will work within a highly decoupled message-based platform built on the latest Microsoft cloud technologies.

In this role, you will:

• Drive the technical strategy to evolve our platform and data capabilities which supports all application teams. Collaborate with your product and engineering peers to prioritize, plan, and deliver your strategy.

• Design, build and maintain shared services and libraries based on the latest cloud technologies to provide common functionality in a generic way to application teams.

• Automate the product delivery lifecycle to ensure easy and seamless delivery.

• Lead a team of 5-7 highly skilled software and data engineers. Recruit and hire top talent to grow the platform team.

• Influence and promote modern software engineering principles.

• Think out of the box, learn new technologies, and enable business capabilities through innovation.

Responsibilities

• Team Leadership and Development: Lead, manage and grow a team of 5-7 high-functioning engineers responsible for DevOps, application and data platforms. Nurture your team's growth by establishing career plans and outcomes which enable them to grow within their field. Manage progress towards those targets.

• Technical Oversight: Own the technical strategy for the distributed platform, framework, and data which supports our business. Oversee the design, implementation, and operation of scalable and efficient systems. Ensure high availability and performance of all platform services.

• Strategic Planning: Work closely with your product and engineering peers to build, prioritize, and deliver on a roadmap which enables stakeholders with new features and a stable platform.

• Continuous Improvement: Drive initiatives to improve software engineering practices, tools, and processes within the team.

Education, Skills, and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business or equivalent, relevant work experience.

• Hands-on experience scaling critical software platforms

• 12+ years' experience with Microsoft .NET/C# as an engineer and 3+ years as a manager, or similar combination.

• Experience working in cloud environments such as Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure.

• You are located in Chicago and are open to/excited about building our hybrid work culture.

• 5+ years of experience demonstrating strong understanding of object-oriented design and development principles.

• Working knowledge and practice working in Agile development environment with strong engineering principles (XP, SCRUM, etc.).

• Experience managing, organizing, and prioritizing multiple projects and concurrent work streams.
