In this role you will build an engineering team responsible for SD-WAN, routing, and VPN functionality of the MX Security Appliance, a Linux-based product with a wide range of advanced routing and security features. You will provide architectural leadership, review designs, and prioritize the growth and development of your team members. You will be a strong mentor, nurturing an encouraging environment where your team can do their best work. You will enable a positive relationship between your team, product management, and other engineering teams. You have a relentless focus on user experience and quality you care that your team is building the features that will have the biggest impact on Meraki's users and you strive for a customer experience that exemplifies reliability and performance.

Duties as an Engineering Manager:

  • Holding regular one-on-ones with your team, ongoing coaching and mentorship, writing performance evaluations, and compensation planning

  • Planning and tracking timelines for your team, ensuring efficient execution and communicating to relevant stakeholders when things change

  • Working with our recruiters on targeted hiring efforts to make sure your team meets the needs of the business

  • Working with senior engineers and your peers to devise scalable and robust implementations of SD-WAN, VPN, dynamic routing, and IPv6

  • Performing technical design and code reviews

  • Reviewing/prioritizing customer reported bugs and escalations and establishing a plan to address them

  • Providing thoughtful counsel as part of the leadership of the larger product team

What we look for in your background:

  • Have a BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field

  • Have a minimum of 3 years of hands-on and/or functional management experience (coaching/mentoring/performance feedback)

  • Have 7+ years of relevant work experience in system software development in the networking domain

  • Have working knowledge of C and C++

  • Are interested in a leadership role because it allows you to work closely with others to help them achieve their best. Ideally you have led teams of more than three people and are looking for an opportunity to take on more responsibility and grow a team

  • Are adaptable and versatile, but also understand the business necessity of schedules, estimates, and deadlines

  • Have a disciplined approach to development, testing, and quality

Bonus points for experience with any of the following:

  • Test driven development
  • SD-WAN
  • Dynamic routing protocols
  • IPv6
  • VPN
