Position Description:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Engineering Manager to lead the definition and implementation of engineering standards for Capital Projects for a pioneering heavy industrial manufacturing project specializing in rare earth permanent magnets. As the Engineering Manager within the Capital Projects team, you will oversee key engineering aspects of the technical planning, design, and execution of capital projects, playing a crucial role in driving innovation, efficiency, and excellence in our manufacturing processes.

Essential Duties:

  • Provide strategic technical direction and leadership to the Capital Projects Team, guiding the technical planning, execution, and completion of complex engineering initiatives within budget and schedule constraints.

  • Support development of comprehensive technical project plans, scopes of work, and engineering budgets for capital projects, aligning objectives with organizational goals and stakeholder expectations

  • Support the conceptualization and development and lead the review of engineering designs, ensuring proper interfaces, adherence to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices in rare earth element magnet manufacturing.

  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to the Capital Projects Team, resolving complex engineering challenges and optimizing design solutions to enhance equipment performance, reliability, and efficiency.

  • Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project outcomes, proactively addressing issues related to safety, quality, cost, and schedule.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including equipment suppliers, contractors, and consultants, to procure materials and services, negotiate contracts, and ensure project deliverables meet quality and performance standards.

  • Ensure all capital projects comply with relevant regulatory requirements, environmental regulations, and permitting processes, maintaining documentation and records in accordance with industry standards.

  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement within the Capital Projects Team, implementing lessons learned, best practices, and innovative technologies to enhance project delivery processes and outcomes.

  • Develop and implement design standards, specs, processes and procedures as required.

  • Monitor and control the engineering progress on capital projects, and proactively develop strategies to mitigate project risks and areas of concern.

  • Interface and collaborate with technical Subject Matter Experts, Plant Operation and Facilities leadership, HSE, Commissioning Leads, Cost Management Leads and other internal resources.

  • Review design changes for technical validity and alignment with design standards.

  • Communicate clearly, concisely, and transparently for all aspects of project delivery.

  • Confidently deal with ambiguity, assess situations and take appropriate actions

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering required, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Professional Engineer license is desirable.

  • Proven experience in engineering management within the heavy industrial manufacturing sector, with a focus on capital projects and equipment installations, preferably in materials/metals production or similar industries

  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management methodologies, including project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and risk management, with a track record of successfully delivering projects on time and within budget.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders, including senior management, colleagues, and external partners.

  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations governing heavy industrial manufacturing, as well as familiarity with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in engineering and project management

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail and a systematic approach to decision-making and problem resolution

  • Flexibility to travel and work on-site as needed to support project activities, including occasional weekends or evenings as needed to accommodate project schedules and deadlines.

Working Conditions

Our mine facility sits at an elevation of 4700 feet and our magnetics facility at an elevation of 670 ft.

The employee is occasionally required to walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Employee must pass a full-face respiratory fit test. Employee must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work in PPE level C.
