POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager, Engineering

  • Machining has engineering and technical responsibility for the assigned multi-site Center of Excellence (COE) at Sonaca North America. Areas of responsibility include the operating sites, value streams and suppliers primarily engaged in Assembly or Machining of company product.

With the Business Unit Leader, and under the direction of the Director of Engineering, the Manager, Engineering

  • Machining will assist in the generation and execution of company engineering strategy through all the assigned operating units in the COE. The Manager, Engineering

  • Machining will always model and uphold the Sonaca North America values and principles while behaving in a manner consistent with the Sonaca North America Code of Business Conduct and Ethics. Specific responsibilities include the following:

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the development and deployment of engineering plans within the COE and ensure activities are aligned to Corporate engineering strategic vision, mission & goals.

  • Develops and helps to execute the Business Unit Leaders engineering strategy and budget regarding new projects, technology insertion, site modernization and operational problem solving.

  • Drives assignments and plant projects to meet 100% on time delivery & Quality to all customers.

  • Demonstrable working knowledge and understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement activities and driving cycle time reductions and cost out of products.

  • Lead engineering staff within specific COE to achieve timely completion of site/department projects and objectives to facilitate program rate readiness.

  • Assist in the development and scope of assigned or initiated projects and tasks. Work with sites/ departments to build appropriate project teams and technical responsibility for assigned tasks.

  • Develop and report performance metrics related to schedule attainability for projects and initiatives.

  • Communicate with appropriate plant and corporate personnel to secure concurrence of the project goals, funding and tasks. Report progress at recurring COE, site and business level meetings.

  • Interface with personnel to "Inform & Influence" the technical leadership at the plants while supporting and motivating their engineering and technical staff.

  • Define and organize activities and solutions which address or investigate problems and solutions.

  • Lead engineering change activities related to production work and ensured changes are properly addressed from preplanning through to implementation and delivery of product to customer.

  • Leads process development effort with cross-functional teams to review product design, develop optimal manufacturing plans, tool designs, cell layouts, work instructions, process flows and set-up procedures, while adhering to safety, quality, and productivity protocols.

  • Work with Corporate Tooling department to development, design and deliver tools to sites for all stages of manufacturing and delivery.

  • Leads efforts to develop manufacturing equipment for process through either machine upgrades or acquisition of new capital equipment.

  • Provide leadership and coaching in the utilization of processes and tools such as Advanced Planning Quality Procedures (APQP), Production Part Approval Processes (PPAP), LEAN principles, Practical Problem-Solving methods, Root-Cause and Corrective Action and tools such as PFMEA's, Risk Assessments, mistake/error proofing, etc.

  • Ensure proper use of the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system is maintained at all sites through the proper use of Teamcenter to manage customer and engineering data.

  • Assists production staff as process expert by utilizing troubleshooting, diagnosis, debugging, and other technical skills to keep production lines running at peak efficiency.

  • Be a safety champion by ensuring Safety analysis and implementation is conducted in all projects and initiatives.

  • Stay current and up to date with industry trends.

  • Train and develop personnel in the group, maintain technical competence and expand knowledge of technical developments.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as needed

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCES

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in engineering, aerospace, operations, or related discipline

  • A minimum of 12 years of related aerospace experience and minimum of 3-5 years leading cross-functional groups of people. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the engineering and project management disciplines

  • Industry experience working with machining, assembly, fabrication, processing, and composites. Experience in working with multiple Aerospace manufacturing facilities in a matrixed environment.

  • Solid business acumen and possess the ability to strategically calculate how engineering impacts long term strategy and financial performance.

  • Demonstrated experience in an AS9100 compliant business using Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies to remove waste.
