POSITION SUMMARY: The role manages the engineering department, and interacts with customers, regulatory bodies, suppliers, and other internal departments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develops business plans and schedules for engineering projects, integrating each project with overall Company plan and schedule
Develops and manages departmental budgets
Maintains Engineering Master Schedule
Develops engineering budgets as required for the Proposal/Estimating Group
Develops, maintains, and reports on engineering metrics to measure performance of project teams.
Establishes and maintains relationships with outside detailing, design and engineering firms, negotiates scope of work and terms.
Executes long term management of the Engineering Department human and physical resources, including training, adoption of improved processes, new software, and maintenance of existing resources, in support of the company strategic plans.
Leads and directs the work of the Engineering Department.
Prepares design cost estimates and schedules, and supports marketing and bidding efforts as required, including preparation of formal and informal proposals to potential customers.
Develops project design strategies and identifies resource requirements. Ensures design execution supports overall project plan.
Ensures compliance with Vigor procedures as applicable. Provides support for development and implementation of engineering and technical procedures.
Job Scope: The Engineering Manager is responsible for development of engineering products and processes in support of production. The ability to plan for engineering tasks and production needs is essential. The role is responsible for multiple projects with up to $10 million in engineering value each.
Supervisory Responsibility: Will oversee technical project team member activities. May also have direct/indirect supervisor oversight of 7+ Engineers, Designers and Detailers.
Interpersonal Contacts: The Engineering Manager interacts with other engineers and designers on a daily basis to resolve complex engineering issues. This position interacts with current and future customers frequently. Interactions range from resolution of specific details to planning of projects which are not fully defined.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and experience working within the fabrication industry would be beneficial.
Ability to organize work and people in a fast paced technical environment, including management of workloads, budgets, and schedules.
PC skills, including engineering computer equipment, engineering analysis software, CAD, Numerical Control, specialized lofting and nesting applications, and file management applications.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written for constant interaction with all departments and employee levels and outside customers.
Must be a highly organized, detail and customer (internal and external) oriented self-starter.
Ability to read and write work specifications, work orders, blueprints, contracts and technical publications.
Ability to handle competing priorities and deadlines effectively and respond well to last minute, high priority, time sensitive projects.
Ability to schedule, direct and organize work within a diverse department and coordinate work with other departments to maintain efficiency and facilitate group decision-making, team building and conflict resolution.
Education and/or Experience: Engineering Degree required, mechanical engineering preferred. A minimum of 10 years experience within fabrication engineering.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Registered Professional Engineer, preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced office setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity. The individual may be required to be in production areas in yard. He/she must be able to walk to and from job sites. Good finger, hand and wrist dexterity required for extensive computer operations. There may be local travel and out-of-town travel (including air travel) up to 5% of the time with notice.
