ASCO Power Technologies, an industry leader in the manufacturing of automatic transfer switches, industrial control products and power control systems, services and solutions, has an exciting career opportunity for an Engineering Manager for the organization at our Corporate Headquarters in Florham Park, NJ.

Position Summary:

New Product Development Engineering Manager who plans, schedules and directs all engineering activities related to New Product Development (NPD). This position has complete management responsibility for design, development, improvements, testing, analysis, and performance verification of company's products. This position requires a high degree of technical and professional competence in product development from concept to full-production, and is expected to resolve technical and administrative problems. This position is responsible for all engineering documentation including drawings, calculations, test reports, agency certificates, patents and other engineering documents. This position is responsible for the quality and on-time delivery of all engineering tasks.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish a variety of engineering tasks.

  • Implements and maintains engineering objectives and initiatives such as cost savings and complexity reductions.

  • Provides expert guidance on mechanical components design and materials.

  • Plans, assigns and facilitates the management of all engineering tasks supporting the design and development of new and existing products; including defining schedules, necessary activities, costs, prototypes, necessary tools, testers and gauges. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

  • Assures assigned activities are completed per planned schedules and budgets or amended accordingly.

  • Implements key performance indicators (KPI) to make sure that design activities and projects are on track.

  • Manages and motivates direct report team to achieve aggressive goals.

  • Provides mentorship and leadership development to individual team members.

  • Strengths the team by hiring and retaining top engineering talent.

  • Provides weekly and monthly reports on status of projects and Engineering personnel activities.

  • Assist Purchasing and Quality in the selection and qualification of new suppliers.

  • Reviews product designs for compliance with engineering principles, UL and NEC standards, customer requirements and other applicable specifications.

  • Prepares necessary documentation for NPD meetings and NPD process planning.

  • Performs oral project update presentations during NPD team meetings.

  • Provides assembly support, as required, to fabricate prototypes and test articles in house.

  • Writes test plans, test procedures, and test reports to support development, validation, and qualification testing.

  • Manages effort to satisfy requirements within schedules and budgets.

  • Plans, recommends, and justifies capital expenditures for new equipment.

  • Keeps Director of Engineering apprised of technical and personnel developments.

  • Travels as required to manufacturing plants, suppliers, and occasional customer forensic work.

  • Continues education in job related subjects, attends seminars and conferences.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills with internal team members and external customers.

  • Strong problem solving skills and demonstrated ability to analyze and articulate technical problems.

  • Keen ability to continuously and objectively critique designs for commercially marketable results.

  • Ability to acquire state of the art industry knowledge as related to company's products.

  • Competent knowledge of fundamentals and practice of engineering.

  • Knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) and results assessment.

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, solid modeling using PTC or a related package.

  • Knowledge of MS Office application including Word, Excel and Project.

  • Capable of estimating labor and materials costs for product and development projects.

  • Able to resolve team conflict and motivate to achieve goals.

  • Appreciation for cross-functional team NPD.

  • Domestic and international air travel is required.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related subject from four-year college with at least 5 years of experience complementary to low voltage switchgear design.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) and results assessment.

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, solid modeling using PTC or a related package.

  • Knowledge of MS Office application including Word, Excel and Project.
