ROLE OVERVIEW
Benchling is on a mission to accelerate the pace of life sciences research and development. To do that, we build a suite of tools that scientists use daily to solve humanity's most pressing problems. The tools we build must be optimized to make scientists more efficient in their work, across a broad spectrum of research, development, and manufacturing tasks.
The Performance Engineering and Observability team has a broad charter to improve application performance and observability patterns through direct intervention and by influencing other engineering teams. The team is currently driving SLO adoption and Real User Monitoring across the engineering organization, as part of Benchling's Performance Program, and enhancing empathy for customers through deep observability insights.
The leader of this team will have an opportunity to significantly impact Benchling's engineering culture, and lead career-defining performance improvements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead a team of 3-4 engineers dedicated to performance and observability improvements
Foster and grow an inclusive and customers-first culture within the team and in the engagements with the broader organization
Develop internal software and resources to ease adoption and implementation of observability tools and patterns
Work cross-functionally with other engineering leaders to promote ownership of application performance
Engage with executive leadership to set and achieve goals through the Benchling Performance Program
Identify opportunities to improve application performance with cross-cutting architectural improvements

QUALIFICATIONS
2+ years leading engineering teams in Platform, Infrastructure, or Application organizations
Have experience in driving cross-functional projects to improve performance and observability
Are results driven and pragmatic
Ability to influence and partner with leaders across the organization in cross-functional roles
Experience with modern observability technologies
Strong understanding of observability and performance monitoring tools in distributed cloud computing, virtualization, and microservices architectures.
SALARY RANGE
Benchling takes a market-based approach to pay. The candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, interview performance, and work location. For this role the base salary range is $186,575 to $252,425.
