Role Overview

Under general supervision the incumbent provides technical support in the design, development, troubleshooting, testing and assembly of new or existing products.

Work Location: Onsite: 72 Spring Lane, Farmington, CT

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and perform standard/experimental test programs.

  • Set up/operate instruments, instrumentation, data acquisition.

  • Collects test data, reduces the data, and writes status reports summarizing the experiments and tests to meet an established schedule.

  • Develops and documents new test methods and plans.

  • Designs and builds fixtures required for product verification and validation testing.

  • Performs basic troubleshooting and problem analysis of product or process problems.

  • Assembles new product prototypes for engineering evaluation, life testing, or customer evaluation. These prototypes must meet all specifications required by the engineer and must be completed within an established time frame.

  • Supports the engineering laboratory. This includes the maintenance and operation of the equipment in the lab, cleanliness and neatness, procuring supplies, tooling/fixture storage, and training.

  • Effectively communicates information to co-workers, customers, and suppliers which they require to do their jobs.

  • 100% attendance of all provided HSE training sessions

  • Other duties as assigned.

Critical Competencies for Success

Education and Experience

  • Associates degree in a technical field OR a minimum of 2 years of applicable experience in a test lab or comparable setting.

  • Basic knowledge of pneumatics and electronics and laboratory equipment including pressurized air sources and delivery systems, pressure and flow measurement equipment and electronic measuring devices. Basic knowledge of measurement tools including micrometers, calipers, digital readout devices and multi-meters. Basic knowledge of shop equipment including lathes, mills and hand tools.

  • Working knowledge of shop mathematics including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry is required. Knowledge of basic statistics, reliability analysis, and design of experiments is desirable.

  • Ability to handle tasks in an environment that can be stressful at times. Accept responsibility for assignments and have the tenacity to drive these assignments to successful conclusion.

  • Positively communicate with customers internally and externally to address their needs promptly and follow through on commitments.

  • Ability to write technical reports, business correspondence, and procedures.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from subordinates, peers, managers, and customers.

  • Entry level understanding of Quality system and standards.

Computers and Technology

  • Ability to use industry standard personal computers (PCs) and PC applications including Excel, Power point and Word.

  • Must be able to perform effective searches on the internet for procurement of test fixture supplies.

  • Knowledge of DAQ Data Collection system is highly desirable.

  • Knowledge and understanding of electrical theory and application.
